NaBloPoMo Commences

Sound the bells and whistles! NaBloPoMo has begun! Are you ready for my groundbreaking first post of the month?

Don’t hold your breath.

My mind is spinning and I’m hoping that you all can help me out.

#1 – Something’s up with the twins. They are hurting again and I am starting to feel achy all over. This is NOT good considering I am headed to Mexico in 5 days. I think it’s thrush although Wito has no sign of it.

#2 – Wito hasn’t pooped since Sunday. I fed him formula two days ago during an afternoon feed (to give the nips a rest, if ya know what I mean) and I am now convinced that formula is the Devil Incarnate and has blocked my son’s intestines indefinitely. I know they say anywhere within a week is normal, but should I be concerned?

#3 – Wito woke up 4 times last night, which is completely unlike him. Is #2 to blame?

#4 – Wito hates tummy time and screams like a banshee if put him on his stomach. Any tips out there for easing the process? I’ve tried the boppy, propping him up on his hands, lying on the floor and dangling toys in front of him. Any suggestions?

That’s all I’ve got, peeps. Suggestions and comments would be appreciated so I can get rid of the bad Chi and start writing again.

*UPDATE* AHA! I KNEW THE MINUTE I POSTED THIS ENTRY HE WOULD POOP. TAKE THAT CONSTIPATION GODS! I’M TRICKY LIKE THAT! You can ignore #2.

Formula changed the rhythm of both my girls’ poops when introduced. Both of them have slept like bricks so poop or no poop has never affected their sleep. Maybe just a wacky night?

My older daughter hated tummy time. It turned out that she had a neck condition that made it uncomfortable (NOT saying this is the case with Anders) her physical therapist came up with some other suggestions for tummy time. Laying her across my lap with her head over the edge was agreeable to her. Another suggestion (that my daughter ended up not liking) was to lay her across an excersize ball. Once Anders starts to get more neck strength through these exercises, tummy time might be more fun for him.

With my 10 month old I just put her on her tummy from day one, even for sleeping, and tummy time was never an issue. She also slept a lot better than my first too. I know for many this is NOT an option but it worked out really well for her. My older daughter had severe head flattening and I didn’t want to go down that road again.

I hope your boobies start feeling better so you can enjoy your trip.

I don’t have any suggestions, but I have to say that I’ve learned from bloggers who are moms that it’s a good thing I have no problem talking about poop, because I’m going to be doing it a lot as soon as I have a baby. My husband is a different story. I may have to have him start reading some blogs so he gets used to the idea.

I’m so jealous that you’re heading to Mexico. I hope you all have a wonderful time and that whatever is bugging the “twins” goes away before you leave.

I’ve never had thrush, so I don’t know…but I hope you’re OK for your trip! My first didn’t like tummy time much either, but slowly got used to it!

Looking forward to your daily posts :)

My little guy had some strange pooping habits that turned out to be just a change in his system. He was going several times a day then all of a sudden he didn’t go for 2 days – I was freaked. He was also sleeping crappy too, it was like he was having gas pains that were keeping him up. I felt so bad because I kept thinking it was something I was eating. My husband thought like you – that evil formula. The gas pains and the change in poop schedule seemed to coincide.

I did some Internet reading and I have decided that his system was growing / changing and now he’s pooping fairly regularly and the gas pains are gone.

    Good Luck!!

My son always hated tummy time, so I would lay on my back, bend my knees and bring them just over my chest. I’d lay Conner on his tummy on the tops of my shins and he loved it b/c he could see my face and I could wiggle him around to keep him entertained. He’s 9 months old now and he still loves it.

I had two kids that had isses with thrush, and the regular meds never worked. My doctor suggested that I buy the 7 day cream Monistat tubes, and use a tiny bit on the “twins” and a tiny bit in my kids mouth after feedings. Like smaller than a pea amount!. Use it for 7 days! It worked like a charm. You have to treat both of you, or else you just pass it back and forth in a never ending cycle. You can even use it on their bottoms for the 7 days if the thrush has managed to run through his system and turn into a diaper rash. Hope things clear up before you go away! Not fun to be sick!

Jillian hates tummy time, too, but I just let her get the screaming out of her system. I’m secretly hoping she’ll get so pissed off that she’ll start rolling over, but so far, there is just the screaming. Good times!

I had thrush with all three of my kids and I’m telling you…the ONLY way you can get rid of it is by treating both you and the baby, whether they are showing signs or not. Please don’t let the doctors convince you that only you need to be treated. You will continue to pass it back and forth to each other. If you feel like talking over the phone about any of your issues, (poop, thrush, whatever) please drop me an email koboyle51600@comast.net and I’ll give you my phone number. I feel sorry for anyone dealing with thrush. It’s horrible!! They also have something called Dr. Jack Newman’s cream that your OB/GYN can give you and the pharmacy can concoct for you. It’s wonderful. But all my kids were treated with Oral Nystatin at the same time. All the best….Kerry

    W-

The type of formula can be constipating. Ry was constipated for almost a week on similac and infamil. I switched to Nestle Good Start due to the comfort proteins/digestion and we were in the clear.

Go to Walgreens and get a blowup beach ball. Lay Anders over the ball on his tummy while you hold his legs/feet and roll him forward and backward slowly. It helps with strengthening the back while getting a better view than the fibers in your rug.

    :)

It seems that as soon as you start talking about poop, it happens :)

Congrats on starting NaBloPoMo, it will be fun to read!

As for tummy time, my guy hated it too, so I just didn’t do it that often. He was an early roller and crawler, so I didn’t worry too much. And he turned out pretty good so far ;)

Ha! The Internet is MAGIC! As soon as I posted my comment above, Jillian rolled over from tummy to back!

Here’s a tummy-time trick. My Charlie hated it too. Put him on the kitchen table. For some reason, they like the view from up there. Obviously, you’ll have to stay right there in case he figures out how to roll over. Good luck!

I don’t know if thrush causes a systemic feverish achiness or not? I only have a mild touch of it, but I feel OK except in the boob area. I hope it’s not your mastitis coming back!

My 8 week old boy likes tummy time only on MY tummy – if I lay all the way back on the bed and let him lay on my chest, he pushes up like a champ, and seems to enjoy it. (He hates all other forms of tummy time so far.)

My daughter hated tummy time, too, until we bought her one of those floor mats with the brightly colored toys hanging down. She liked to lay on her back and bat at the animals, and then I’d turn her over and let her star at the pretty colors on the mat itself.
