Secret Agent To The Rescue!

I had big plans to post about the first month of mommyhood when Wito decided to endure a growth spurt and feed every 2 hours around the clock. Good times.

My very cute pediatrician with a South African accent told me Wito would become much fussier in the upcoming weeks, and yes, he was correctamundo. And might I mention, I very much enjoy listening to anything the cute pediatrician says. Double swoon. Did you ever see the Sex and the City episode where Charlotte hires the hot divorce lawyer and acts all sweet and demure when she really wants to tell it like it is in the bitchiest of ways? Um, kind of like my situation with the pediatrician. Although, I’m sure the first 102 degree fever will swiftly take care of that issue.

He’s still a perfect angel baby during the day, but then the sun starts to set and DUH DUH DUNNNNN, scary devil baby emerges. This is the time when nothing will satisfy him. Rocky-vibrating chair thing? HATES IT. Tummy time? HATES IT. Being swaddled? Super duper HATING IT to the tenth degree. Have you seen the Miracle Blanket? This thing is like a straight jacket, but he somehow manages to bust out of it every time. I have given birth to a mini-Houdini. Shushing? Nope. Pacifier? For about 5 minutes until he violently knocks it out of his mouth while scratching his eyeballs out.

My God, the DRAMA.

I wonder who he gets that from?

I even drove to Babies”R”US like a bat out of hell to purchase the swing of all swings to appease him. After reading all the reviews, I figured it had to work. Um, HATED IT*. This was the point of no return. My first true baby-related meltdown. I wish I had it on video.

SAJ to the rescue! Thank Jebus she got me outside into the fresh air where I realized there is still a thriving world outside of my nightly Temple of Baby Doom.

We walked to the park while I enjoyed the sunshine on my pale-ass shoulders. I am very pale, people. The walk was glorious. Oh, and she took photos of the blessed event. Enjoy!

* He now enjoys the swing. And the Baby Bjorn. Hell yes.

To me, Anders is a perfect angel baby all the time. Of course I am 1000’s of miles away.

At 8 months, my babe is thankfully past that fussy for no apparent reason stage, but a little fresh air has always made her happy to the point of giggling at trees. Maybe babies get cabin fever? We have the swing of all swings too. Not so popular now but back in the day, baby kind of sorta lived in hers. I wish they made an adult version.

Yay! Sunshine and the Baby Bjorn. And the little mohawk. I love the mohawk! Can’t wait to see this new swing soon.

Why, oh why, do they insist on lacerating their eyes and faces when they’re screaming? It really doesn’t help. And also, I HATE chewing baby fingernails (paranoid about hurting them)so I try to let them get as long as possible before they are able to draw blood. Terrible, I know.

Great photos – looks like a good day for a walk. They always help – My first was born at the end of December, and I was out in the cold of January walking with him just to get out of the house :)

Kids are a mystery…and each one is different. Before you know it, you’ll have him figured out. Kind of :)

Good thing he’s so cute! ;)

I feel your pain. I remember when my first daughter was born, and she screamed for 5 hours every night. I started dreading nightfall, too. What I ended up having to do was pull down the mobiles, dim the lights, turn on very soft music and hold her until she calmed down enough to nurse. Some babies get overstimulated very easily. I hope you and Anders work out something soon.

I hear you. We have the screaming and the face-tearing and the crying (mostly me, but still).

So far, the one thing that shuts Jillian up is to sit her upright on my knee and bounce her. The vibrating chair doesn’t work, swaddling doesn’t work, we have no room for a swing, I can only feed her so much, and at 3 in the morning, putting her in the car and driving until she falls asleep is not exactly a good idea because I will fall asleep before she does.

They say it gets better, and I’d like to believe that, but I’m getting pressure sores from sitting in my rocking chair with her! Still, I wouldn’t give up a minute of it. What would I complain about if I did??

I was hoping the swing would be magic right out of the gate! But I’m glad he’s enjoying it now…

If none of these gadgets work, why am I freaking out about not having them?

Have you read The Happiest Baby on the Block? Saved my sanity with all its little tricks about calming those stinkers down.

My second child didn’t like anything… swings, Snugli’s, nothing. All she wanted to do was eat, eat, eat. And since I was breastfeeding, I just felt like a human lactation machine. Luckily for me, she got over that. Good thing, too, since she’s 13 now. ;-)

Glad you were able to get out and about and have a good time!

I felt compelled to post. My boy is four, but I remember like it was yesterday… Every night for about two hours he’d cry. The only thing that would calm him was to go to the downstairs bathroom with the extra noisy fan. And hold him tight. And bounce him back and forth.

He grew out of it though.

Thankfully #3 was very, very, very content with her swing.

Oh – and how did I email or do anything on the computer? One handed while the little one nursed…

    Good luck!

Hang in there, Whoorl! Both of my babies were screamers, it does get better. I second Happiest Baby on the Block!! Somethings work by themselves, some have to work together, depends on the baby.

You’ll actually get to a point when you stop dreading the evenings, you accept that it will happen, you figure out the little guy’s “off switch,” and time rolls on and the scream fests pass. You and D will be able to eat dinner together again, Anders will be a 24 hour angel!
