These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things

Do you know Joslyn over at Simple Lovely? She’s pretty fantastic, if I do say so myself.

Joslyn and I met at Blogher in San Francisco when she paid me a compliment on my grey purse. (By the way, I know the correct American spelling of grey is “gray”, but I’d prefer to be British today.)

(D just looked at me and said “I think people should spell it “greige”.)

(Ummm, okie dokie.)

Now, if you’ve been coming around here for awhile, you might remember my elusive quest for the Perfect Grey Bag last year. You must understand, when someone pays my bag a compliment, it is like my own personal Olympic gold medal.

Nice Stranger: That’s a great bag.

Whoorl: Thank you. No, really, THANK YOU! You can’t possibly understand the toil I personally endured trying to find the Perfect Grey Bag. I looked everywhere! Bought and returned, prayed to the purse gods, you name it. I mean, Perfect Grey Bags just don’t drop from the heavens! Most grey bags are too purple, you know? In the the wrong light, they can look lavender, and who wants that? NOT ME, NO SIRREE BOB! I tell ya, it’s a search and rescue operation, trying to wade through the bad grey bags. Heh. Now, don’t get me started on the other spectrum, the greenish grey bags. Of course, I would much rather err on the side of green, but that shade has it’s own set of issues. Right? Well, then I finally located the right shade of grey, but then those bags had all sorts of bells and whistles and buckles and keychains and tassles, and I’m just looking for a stylish functional bag, ya know? SOOOO, I finally found this bag and ordered from some store across the country, but when I received it, it must have been the floor model because it had water spots on it. Water spots! Can you believe it? I had to ship it ALL THE WAY back to Boston. I finally decided to order straight from the source, I mean, why didn’t I do that in the first place? Crazy, I tell ya. CRAZY. Anyhoo…

Nice Stranger: *using her belt to create a noose around her neck*

Where was I? Oh yes, Joslyn!

Joslyn has created a fabulous feature involving lists. (OMG, be still my beating heart.) Specifically, lists involving bloggers’ favorites – much like the “shortlist” in Elle Decor. When she asked me to participate, I jumped at the chance.

Read about my favorites here. Thanks for the opportunity, Joslyn!

  1. I’m such a fan of that bag. And since you told me about your love of Charley Harper’s illustrations I’ve been looking him up, and I have to say: very awesome, indeed.

  2. Amen one thousand and one million times on the ranunculus. A better flower? There is none.

  3. You got me hooked on both Goldenberry and the Fekkai Glossing Cream, and for them, I am eternally in your debt.

  4. ha, yes, the Perfect Grey Bag (I spell grey with an ‘e’ too, it’s just cooler that way). I am still a little concerned that I offended you gravely when I called your LV bag hideous, but the grey bag really does atone for all sins.

  5. We share a favorite flower! Ranunculus are so pretty.

  6. Lordy, what a fantastically wondrous list. Now I want shop dammit! Must bookmark all of that stuff immediately under my gifts category! Seriously, this made my day….is that sad?

  7. I have THOSE EXACT DV shoes (plus more… I love, love, LOVE that line). I am also a huge fan of the ranunculus!

And I must credit you for turning me onto the Kiehl’s Goldenberry. I still wear it almost daily after our trip to mall to fetch it. :)

  8. I have that purse b/c of you…only in a different color. I simply adore it and get tons of compiments. Thank you, Whoorl!

  9. I have no words to describe how much I love Ranunculus. I’ve even tried to grow them here, but they just poop out on me and no florist here ever has them in stock when Hubby calls to order special bouquets. I will have to try this Goldenberry you speak of. I am paley pale pale, so I hope you mean it when you say it goes well with the fairest of fair. So far, nothing has surpassed Nars Metis gloss in my book.

  10. Like you and Sadie, I spell it “grey,” too. Always have. Like Sadie says, it’s just cooler that way.

  11. I’m in love with the mum’s day necklace! So perf. Bravo to D for his fantastic gift-giving abilities! And Charley Harper is bar none the coolest.

  12. Oh, your pink glasses. SWOON. I’ve been glaring at my pink glasses disapprovingly ever since I saw yours.

  13. Miguelina says:

I saw a few BlogHer pictures where you were wearing your pink glasses and I have to admit that I was happy to see them back. I think they’re your signature look!

  14. All I kept thinking when I was reading all that about your quest for the perfect grey bag was “isn’t there a Grateful Dead song about shades of grey or something?”

And this is probably why I shouldn’t be allowed to leave comments.

  15. Yes, there is a Grateful Dead song about shades of grey. It is called ‘Touch of Grey’ and it is by far the loveliest of all their songs! A little pop-y but so catchy and fun, it cannot be resisted. Highly recommended!

  16. OMG! I just de-lurked without even meaning to…I was so inspiried by sharing my love of ‘Touch of Grey’ that I didn’t even think about it! I feel so exposed! Well, now that I’m out, Whoorl you are so much fun to read! I must say I get all excited when I see a new post. Also, thank you for the tips..the Fekkai is my new personal Jesus!

  17. how did you make this list?

    With Photoshop.

  18. Talk to me about the glossing creme: Is it’s sole purpose making hair shiny? How do you feel about it’s use on thin hair? Is it necessary?

    p.s. – I bought a Chi flat iron last night… I’m PUMPED!!

Yes, it’s mainly for the shine factor. I use a pea-sized drop for my long, thick hair – that stuff goes a LONG way. For shorter, thinner hair, you would only have to use a microscopic amount. (Which is great because it would last you 17 years.) ;)

  19. I absolutely love those glasses.
How in the world do you get away with pink glasses all the time though? It’s amazing.

Well, I also wear these glasses. It’s not all pink, all the time. ;)

In general, I like me some BOLD glasses.

  20. Additionally, EVERYONE should be using the Fekkai glossing creme.

Allison, If you want to try it before you buy it, hit up Bath and Body Works. They sell it, and they have little packages to give out usually (my little package has lasted two weeks – you really don’t need a lot) and if they don’t have any, they have some out as a tester… and a sink, so, y’know, you can’t go wrong giving it a go. :)

  21. I have the Fekkai Glossing Cream open in Sephora in another tab right now, and my finger keeps hovering over the add-to-cart option. I’m also intrigued by your Kiehls lipgloss, since you turned me on to the magic that is NARS. Love, love, love. You’re a style goddess, Whoorl!

  22. Hey there – thanks for the tip on maternity jeans! I checked them out on Nordstrom. Did you order your pre-pregnancy size or one or two sizes up? Also, did they really make it all the way through pregnancy? I am 20 weeks and need something to get me through and afterwards. They are cute though!

  23. Totally agree with you that when it comes to glasses, go bold or go home.

  24. Just waiting for the next giveaway……not to sound greedy or anything.

  25. Whoorl – You should do a “My favorite things” list each week! It was really fun to see your list! My favorite was the gold hammered ball necklace from Ippolita…so pretty!

  26. I met her at Blogher too! And what a great idea!

  27. Fantastic list. Fantastic bag. Clearly, you’re completely fantastic.

  28. I too search for the elusive grey bag. In case you haven’t seen them, Coach has some beautiful grey bags this fall – e.g. http://www.coach.com/content/product.aspx?product_no=11447&category_id=161
