Nightline Segment
Written by whoorl · Filed Under hair thursday, mass media
Before you watch the video, I must tell you that the horribly-named Swim Sweater is quite a hit with Wito. In fact, he refuses to take it off. Ever.
Out by the pool? Swim Sweater. Eating lunch? Swim Sweater. Playing with a puzzle in the living room? Swim Sweater. It’s almost as if the fabric-covered tube acts as a nice, comfortable armrest. And really, who wouldn’t want an armrest 24/7? It’s genius, I tell you! Visually hideous, yet genius.
We’re heading to dinner with high hopes of removing it before actually entering the public eatery. Wish us luck.

May 24th, 2008 5:30 pmYou looked just beautiful in that segment! Nice work.
And Jeremy’s hair WAS totally constipated. Dude looked way cuter after that stylist de-newsgeeked it.
Sarah
May 24th, 2008 5:33 pmReally fun segment, Whoorl! Great job…you’re a natural! And damn your hair looked glossy on camera….
Becky
May 24th, 2008 5:49 pmAw! I feel strangely proud. I’ve been reading your site from the very early days and now look at you!
Way to go! You are a tv natural.
Annika
May 24th, 2008 5:54 pmOof, that anchor’s hair is worse than mine. And the stylist’s butchery of the English language made me cringe. Everything else, though, was perfectly entertaining–and you were lovely.

May 24th, 2008 6:01 pmWay to go!
I think my hair might have diarrhea…

May 24th, 2008 6:02 pmI was too lazy to click on the link for the Swim Sweater yesterday.
Now I think I should stop at Toys R Us on my way home tomorrow and buy Emily one. She and Wito could be matchy-poo.
I already talked to you yesterday about how excited I am for you, but want to state it for public record.
YOU ROCK, GIRL.
So very, very excited for you!

May 24th, 2008 6:09 pmConstipated Hair. That’s so awesome (not the having it, just the phrase).
Yay for you and your genius!
Stacy
May 24th, 2008 6:48 pmThat segment is awesome!
We had the same Swim Sweater situation with a bike helmet. I figured at least he was safe, you know if the building collapsed or whatever. Now Wito is prepared for flash floods.

May 24th, 2008 7:07 pmYou were fantastic! Congratulations.
And yay, I totally saw my picture when you scrolled on the Flickr page! I’m famous!
*cough*

May 24th, 2008 7:10 pmSo SO lovely! You looked totally calm, cool, collected and well coifed. I would have been a blathering idiot. Also? I was thinking of submitting myself, but dang! 150 people already waiting? Too crazy. Congrats, girlie.

May 24th, 2008 7:14 pmYou sound precisely as I imagined you would - articulate and classy! Thank you for posting the clip!

May 24th, 2008 8:01 pmHi Whoorl - I watched your segment again tonight (was telling my mom about your site, Hair Thursday, and how she would get a kick out of reading your blog), and I’m just like, she is cool…just too cool on so many levels! You’re a natural! About Wito and the swim sweater…isn’t that funny how kids get attached to things? Did you have any luck getting it off of him before dinner? Have a great weekend - I hear Palm Springs is gorgeous!

May 24th, 2008 9:16 pmWow, you did the best interview I’ve ever seen of any blogger on TV. You looked so natural and like you were really relaxed and enjoying yourself.
I watch Jeremy often on the extremely late insomniac ABC news and that stylist was right, his hair IS constipated. He’s cute but kinda a jerk.

May 24th, 2008 11:13 pmCuz,
You looked amazing, as always. Great job. Whoever was able to capture the video and post it for you must be a real genius. And handsome, too. But, that’s just a guess, of course.
And while I agree that Jeremy’s hair may be truly constipated, I find Cynthia’s voice and speech pattern really disturbing. Seriously, what language is she speaking in the intro?

May 24th, 2008 11:59 pmWow such a natural, Hair Thursdays may become a tv segment in the future!

May 25th, 2008 12:24 amawesome!
i have a couple questions though, is your mouse scroll doodad really that loud? or did they boost the volume of it to enhance its signs of the times-ness?
oh, i have buckets full of empathy over here for sand issues and toddler’s with lungs full of air. lucky for us, we have a pool at our disposal regardless of our close proximity to the pacific ocean (norcal’s beaches just dont really count like socal’s). last summer we used a spring float and it worked well. unfortunately it didnt store well and is now one giant hunk of nylon and metal coils. i actually ordered and recieved a swim sweater, but havent busted it out yet. i hope my 22mo old appreciates it as much as wito. enjoy the quality pool time!
Holly! Thank you! When I was watching it for the first time, I looked at D and asked, “What in the hell is that noise?” Actually, I do not use a mouse, just the trackpad on my laptop. That lovely noise was care of Nightline.

May 25th, 2008 6:35 amHave I mentioned how very proud I am of you right now?? No? Oh, ok. I am VERY proud of you right now, my friend.

May 25th, 2008 6:47 amYAY! You were awesome, and I can’t imagine how the HT queue will explode….you’ll be booked for years to come!
Nate
May 25th, 2008 11:04 amYou look fantastic on TV! Maybe Hair Thursday should be a TV show. Or at least a weekly segment on Oprah.

May 25th, 2008 11:14 amThat was awesome! You did a great job.

May 25th, 2008 4:24 pmI caught your segment on Nightline and was really intrigued. I’m a high school teacher and have tried to get my students to understand the power of the internet outside of what they see on their myspace page. That story was a great example.
Also, your site is cracking me up for a couple of reasons. I’m a father or four daughters and empathize with your parental “struggles” (relatively superficial though they are; no life-threatening diseases for either of our families). In addition, I’m a former Southern California resident and my wife and I are very familiar with your beach struggles (in fact I was visiting Newport with my 5 year old about a month ago–sand everywhere).
I have to take issue though with your indoctrination of young Wito in the Kansas Jayhawk way. As a UCLA alumnus, I know that there’s a school just up the 405 from you with a pretty good basketball tradition.
Best wishes to you.

May 25th, 2008 4:35 pmWhat a great nightline, congrats!!!!

May 25th, 2008 4:53 pmHow exciting! Fabulous interview. And you totally pulled off those “I’m going to sit at my computer and act natural like nobody is totally zooming into my eyeballs with a camera right now” shots with the grace of a pro. Heehee.
What an incredibly exciting opportunity! Nightline? I mean, gah. Who would’ve thought Hair Thursdays would’ve reached such fame?
But with such a brilliant lady behind them, I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised.
:)

May 26th, 2008 5:25 amHow cute are you!?!?! That was totally awesome and rocked all sorts of heck!! Good job… Keep up the good work!!
And now back to the Wito stories over here… I’ve been wondering what the little guy has been up to? His feelings on having a famous mom and living the life of a celebrity? Is it hard on him? Do the paparazzi bother him… ;)
Veronique
May 26th, 2008 7:03 amCongrats Whoorl. That was a really fun segment and you looked totally natural in front of the camera! :)

The stylist did a great job of snazzing up the reporter’s hair, huh?

May 27th, 2008 7:02 amCongratulations Whoorl! How awesome for you. :-)
I was also wondering about that weird scrolling noise. And my name was on that list you were scrolling down. How fun! I got my hair cut again with more layers and forgot to send you and update.
Keep on rockin’!

May 27th, 2008 10:06 amHa! You were awesome. Also? That stylist lives in my town. She’s like a local celebrity (among the moms, that is — the dads are all Curly Who?).
Congrats!

May 27th, 2008 1:00 pmFantastic! You are just darling in a sophisticated and sassy sort of way. By the way, when I am up for Hair Thursday, can you throw in the word “constipated”? I find that just hysterical!
