Mother’s Day
Yesterday was my greatest Mother’s Day yet.
(Is it wrong that I can’t make a statement like that without conjuring up a mental image of Chris Harrison? Stay tuned for Whoorl’s Greatest, Most Romantic Mother’s Day Yet! Don’t go anywhere! You do not want to miss The Most Dramatic Holiday Of The Year!)
(Is it even worse that I am STILL watching The Bachelor? Who’s it going to be? Shayne? The other chick? WHO?)
Now, technically (if pregnancy counts), I’ve only had two of these holidays under my belt, so I don’t have a lot to go by. BUT, c’mon people. Wito walked into the kitchen holding a homemade card, actually handed it to me and exclaimed, “Happy Birthday, Mommy!” (A+ for effort.)
You have to admit, CUTE. Precious, even! The Most Precious Mother’s Day Yet!
What an incredibly crazy week. As I mentioned, Nightline was at my home most of the afternoon on Monday, which was nerve-wracking and surreal in itself. Add in a toddler with a 103 degree fever and no babysitter, and watch Whoorl spontaneously combust!
When working out the details, I planned to film the segment over Wito’s naptime, with Brenda and Bug on call just in case he woke up. Obviously, as Monday morning approached, that plan went to the dogs, since I didn’t want to expose Bug to Wito’s mystery high fever from hell with no symptoms except half-mast eyelids and noodle limbs. So, I figured I would just have to make it work and pray he didn’t wake up. (These are the times when I am SO NOT COOL with the fact that I live thousands of miles away from my family.)
The producers were amazing, patient and so accommodating. Even mid-sentence during the interview, when high-pitched wails from the back of the house suddenly permeated the entire area. Um, about that nap. The producers kindly stopped filming, I ran to the back, tried my best to sooth, ran back to the living room, adjusted my hair and lip gloss (NARS Foul Play, if you must know. The Most Perfect Nude Gloss Yet!) and tried remember what in the hell I was blathering about. Lather, rinse, repeat.
After ten minutes of back and forth, I accepted defeat, called D from the back room, forcibly mumbling, “For the love of sweet jebus get your ass home I can’t do this on my own ABC is in my living room holy hell I’m going to die right here and OMG HELP WITO IS DELUSIONAL.” Luckily, he was home within ten minutes, and all was well. (I will let you all know the airdate as soon as I find out.)
So, this has been an increasingly long-winded way of telling you that Wito has been a sick kid all week with Roseola.
Roseola: The Mysterious Asshat Virus.
What is Roseola? Well, it’s a virus that causes a high fever for four days with absolutely no symptoms (besides the feverish hell), until the fifth day when an awesome red rash breaks out all over your child’s body. (Oh, and no matter what your doctor says, it DOES ITCH.) The good news is that once you get it, you’ll never deal with it again. The bad news is that your little one looks like this:

Wito: Homo Sapiens Palmes Larges
However, as Mother’s Day weekend commenced, the clouds parted, the angels sang, the rash disappeared, and Voilá! Happy, healthy boy!

See me in fever-free motion! p.s. – Get the hell out of my way.
Oh! How could I forget The Most Romantic Mother’s Day Gift Yet? Now, D and I normally don’t spend much on gifts, but he surprised me with the PERFECT necklace.
The Most Beautiful Necklace Yet!
(I took it too far, didn’t I? I’m stopping.)
I finished the day with a couple Sierra Nevada Pale Ales, Kung Pao chicken and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. All in all, a great day.
How was your Mother’s Day? Good food? Great gifts? Do tell!

Yes, thank you! Excellent plan. This is EXACTLY how I plan to spend the rest of my rainy afternoon. GOOD CALL. ALthough, it would be nicer if I could just come over and eat some of yours. Asher could use a case of Roseola.
Happy Mother’s Day!

May 12th, 2008 10:18 amGlad crazy week is over and Wito is better.
Look forward to knowing the airdate so we see the end result.

May 12th, 2008 10:25 amI actually started to sweat just reading how your day rolled out with Nighline there. Glad Wito is better. And I’d also like to know when the other t.v. show-action is coming up?
I’ll announce it here as soon as I get the airdates. :)

May 12th, 2008 10:27 amWas Nightline segment about hair & blogging also ?
Yes, it was about Hair Thursday.

May 12th, 2008 10:49 amAnd a picture of the most perfect necklace? Wito is adorable even with Roseola.
Thank you! I’ll snap a photo for you.

May 12th, 2008 11:18 amI shall presume it is the necklace I saw in Flickr. ‘Tis lovely.
No, different necklace, but thank you!!
Angella
May 12th, 2008 11:40 amMust go to Flickr to see the necklace! Glad that Wito is back to normal :)
Honey got me a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure. Perfect.
That is perfect. Good job, Mr. Angella!

May 12th, 2008 12:01 pmSebastian made toast for me, ALL BY HIMSELF. That’s the most perfect mother’s day ever.
(Well, the two Antrhopologie machine-washable-dresses-with-pockets didn’t hurt either.)
The first time I read this, I thought you said “Sebastian made A toast for me…”
UM, GENIUS CHILD.

May 12th, 2008 12:52 pmAwwww, poor little dude. Glad he’s feeling better. (And you’re not going insane with mystery fever any more!)
I must say….they say you only get the chicken pox once but I had them twice….TWICE, WHOORL! Once when I was just a babe, once when I was about 12. Not cool…not cool at all.
And yay! Happy Mom’s Day! Glad you had a good one.

May 12th, 2008 12:59 pmI, too, was picturing Miguelina’s son raising a sippy cup brimming with champagne, and saying, “Salut, Maman!”
Which was kind of a weird idea, so the real story is a lot better and cuter.
Can’t wait to see the necklace. I got one too. And we went to the zoo and saw the famous polar bear baby, Flocke (who was removed from his mother so she wouldn’t eat him, but let’s not think about that on mother’s day).

May 12th, 2008 1:29 pmI am glad that Wito is feeling better – can I just say that he looks SO MUCH LIKE YOU in that picture of him in the park?
Happy Belated Mother’s Day!
My second Mother’s Day was also perfect – Hubby took the boys and let me sleep in till 10:30. W.O.W. My boys made me breakfast in bed…”Bambled Eggs and pancakes, Mami!”; we went to the park and had fun and capped off the evening with a nice BBQ. Oh and I also got a perfect necklace – Yay for us!

May 12th, 2008 1:40 pmSounds fantastic! So glad Wito is better.

May 12th, 2008 1:48 pmAhhh, so glad to hear that Wito is better. What a perfect day for you! Looking forward to seeing the Nightline piece.
My mother’s day? Well, for my very first, it was absolute perfection. And it continues next Saturday at the spa. My wee little one is so thoughtful!!!!
Have a happy week!!!

May 12th, 2008 1:59 pmFirst, your son is E. NOR. MOUS. And totally adorable.
My 8-year-old son wrote “Happy Birhtday” on my Mother’s Day card. Funny.
I love kids.

May 12th, 2008 2:13 pmSo glad that WIto is on the mend. I hate these mysterious childhood illnesses, especially the ones that involve high fevers.
Mother’s Day was as lovely as can be considering I’ve spent 8 weeks with my head in a toilet. Luckily I received many “I wuv woo’s” from a certain pint sized prince and the double BOB Revolution of my dreams to make up for it. Now if I didn’t have to wait 30 weeks to use it!

May 12th, 2008 2:33 pmHappy Mother’s Day, whoorl! I had a good one too: husband basically took over for the day (aside from breast feeding), so that means I got to sleep in, take a long bath, linger over the Sunday NYT, take a nap, and then dinner at my favorite Mexican Restaurant (we had the kids, so that’s the only place we’ll go at the moment). Also, flowers and a special, romantic gift too!

May 12th, 2008 3:46 pmGlad you had such a nice Mother’s Day!
Congrats on everything else!

May 12th, 2008 5:26 pmI’m flying home to see my momma Memorial Day weekend. We have a flower-bed-planting tradition to uphold. I cannot wait.

May 12th, 2008 5:28 pmoh man… Maggie had Hand-Foot-Mouth disease a couple of weeks ago. What is up with these random, rashy sicknesses?
Happy late Mother’s Day :)

May 12th, 2008 5:35 pmPoor Wito! He looked so miserable!
And…I must shamefully admit that I am also STILL watching The Bachelor. I was driving down Beverly Blvd today and while stopped at a light a bright red sports car (I think a Lamborghini) passed me….with a platinum blonde inside….it was the lovely Shayne. No Bachelor in sight…. :)
Glad you had a good Mother’s Day!
Camels & Chocolate
May 12th, 2008 5:42 pmFor the record, I so still watch The Bachelor (why? I have no idea). If he doesn’t pick Shayne, he’s an idiot (which I think we’ve already established). Chelsea is vanilla. While Shayne’s not exactly double espresso chocolate chip swirl, she’s at least vanilla bean with sprinkles on top.
Poor Wito. That looks painful!

May 12th, 2008 7:50 pmWe started out Friday by getting our nails done, all four of us girls, and then had dinner at El Torito, plus some shopping for he girls’ rooms. Saturday was more shopping and dinner at Applebee’s. Sunday, lunch at McDonald’s, which was gloriously empty. What Mom wants to spend Mother’s Day there, right?

May 12th, 2008 8:18 pmI’m on the East Coast so I totally know that THIS ENDING WAS THE MOST SHOCKING ENDING IN ALL OF BACHELOR HISTORY!! (thanks to that toolbag Chris Harrison) Mums the word …. glad your mother’s day was great ;-)

May 12th, 2008 10:34 pmNaps and Family – couldn’t ask for better.

May 12th, 2008 10:36 pmI admit I still watch the Bachelor. God only knows why.
Ummm… I received a new knife for Mother’s Day. You know my history with lethal weapons…..

May 12th, 2008 11:54 pmPoor Wito-Boy, glad he is feeling better.
Glad your Mother’s Day was wonderful, so was mine. Check out my blog for all the deets.
Sidenote: Wito is getting SO big, he is SO NOT a baby anymore. So cute!
Can’t wait to see the ABC segment air, so cool! Way to go you!

May 13th, 2008 4:08 amFor mother’s day I asked my husband to please take my 1-year-old to his mother’s house so I could sit on the couch. Is that terrible? It was relaxing and I ate fried chicken when no one was looking.

May 13th, 2008 6:55 amI went to a Mother’s Day Tea Party! We wore hats and gloves! It was really fun. I took my four year old daughter but she did not want to be there. She wanted to go play with the boys because they were having fun. She said eating little sandwiches was not fun. She has much to learn.
kris
May 13th, 2008 7:58 amI thought I was the only one still watching the Bachelor – yay for not flying solo in guilty pleasure pursuits!
I CAN’T BELIEVE HE PICKED SHAYNE.
And happy Mother’s Day. :)
Her Bad Mother
May 13th, 2008 1:42 pmRoseola = SUCKS.
(I was taken to brunch, a brunch that involved lobster. What I really wanted was for this baby to come, but lobster was a reasonable substitute.)

May 13th, 2008 2:16 pmDamn Roseola. My poor daughter had the fever and everything when she was 18 months. The drs couldn’t figure it out since the rash hadn’t appeared yet. They put her through urine samples (catheters) and everything. Then the next day the rash appeared.
Glad you had a great mother’s day. Can’t wait to see you on TV. :)

May 13th, 2008 7:56 pmHello Sarah! I just my updated pics for the FIRST EVER COUPLES HAIR THURSDAY (does that make us famous?!?), and then read this post about wittle Wito, and his Childhood Disease. Ours have had Fifth’s for weeks!!! (as the incubation is like, 3 weeks long, each time we’re thinking we’re out of the woods, another one falls). It is so much like what Wito has, IT IS MISERABLE. Just wanted to send empathy, or sympathy, never remember the difference, and say that now, I’m so psyched for you and your ABC interview (not that you are overly concerned about a stranger’s opinion…but hey, I’m tickled pink)!!!
Thanks again, I’m going to stop barraging you with email now,
allison

May 14th, 2008 3:58 pmMy husband took my three-year-old shopping for Mother’s Day stuff on Saturday. Fifteen minutes after they got home, Luke (the three-year-old) asked me if he could have some cake.
I told him we didn’t have any cake.
He said, “Yes, we do!” And led me straight to where it was hidden in the kitchen.

May 19th, 2008 4:05 pmThis was my first Mother’s Day (if you don’t count being pregnant), so I had high expecations. Unfortunately my sweetie came down with a terrible stomach virus/fever and was sick from 2:00 p.m. Saturday until about midday Monday.
He did, however, manage to get me the perfect gift prior to getting sick. On Friday when he was home with our 10 month old baby girl (he stays home with her on Fridays while I’m at work), he managed to get her all dressed up and actually did her hair (no small feat when you see her hair!!!) and had our neighbor take her picture. Sunday morning I had an 8×10 of her waiting for me. Absolutely precious.
