A Very, Very Special Hair Thursday – Vol. 2.12

This week, every single one of your votes count. SERIOUSLY.

Meet Rebecca, whose future hairstyle is completely in your hands.
rebecca_before.jpg

Rebecca’s hair:

Dark blonde with lighter blonde highlights
Normal condition, thick and straight
Likes her hair somewhat long, but is open to a shorter bob style
Wears ponytails quite often
Spends about 10 minutes on hair – mostly blowdrying, but uses a flat iron if needed
Is very knowledgeable about products

Rebecca recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and is looking to freshen up her style. Not being interested in super short styles, I wanted to offer some options that could really change her overall look without chopping it all off.

Take a look.

rebecca_options.jpg

Option #1 would be a new, sleek and modern look for Rebecca. This one-length, texturized bob with an extremely slight angle would be perfect for Rebecca’s straight hair type and face shape. Add some lighter blond highlights and Va Va Voom!

Option #2 would hit just above the collarbone, with sideswept bangs and layering around the face. This too would look fantastic on Rebecca, plus giving her more versatility with the addition of sideswept bangs. (And we all love ponytail bangs, am I right?)

Here’s where it gets interesting. Normally, I post the new styles, you vote and the participant has the option of going forward with the cut. No one is actually dragging the participant to his or her stylist.

Well, this time, your votes will determine the winning style and Miss Rebecca WILL be receiving that exact style in the very near future. WHICH WILL THEN BE REVEALED ON NATIONAL TELEVISION.

(SQUEEEE!)

You heard me right. When I close Rebecca’s poll on Saturday at midnight, her new style will be all your doing. (Well, actually, a very experienced stylist’s doing, but you catch my drift.)

So, get to it, my friends. Make me proud!

How exciting! I went for no bangs because I can’t stand them personally. Can’t wait to see the outcome!

    Aaaah! The pressure!

I went with #2 because with that beautiful baby around, there are ponytail days ahead.

I went for the bangs on Sarah Chalke because I think it allows a little more leeway with styling. With Jenny’s, in order to look right, it has to be perfectly straight. With Sarah’s, it can be a little wispy here and there.

wha?! Why on tv?! whats going on?! where am i?! whats going on?! (I voted for #1)

I think Rebecca would look great with bangs! Add some super blonde highlights and a little berry lip gloss … voila .. hot mama!

Okay, seriously – what is going on with the Whoorl-splosion?! I’m so excited, and I don’t even know what the hell is going on!

That being said, I picked option #1 because I can’t imagine that a new mother has time to futz around with bangs (as cute as they might look). Plus Rebecca has awesome bone structure, and can carry off a more severe cut. Just my $0.02.

Very good points, Jamie. (Not that I am surprised, my curly hair diva consultant!) Rebecca’s bone structure is PERFECT for Option #1.

I went with bangs only because I think that cut would look cuter in a ponytail.

And seriously, did Rebecca just give birth in that photo?! I have never seen such a pretty picture of a brand new (and I mean BRAND NEW) mom. Wow.

Love the bangs and voted for #2, but they may not be super fun with lots of ponytails.

But isn’t “switching up the do” the idea- cute style with bangs = no more ponytails……?

    April 24th, 2008 9:51 am

I don’t usually comment after placing my vote. But I think the bangs will be a nice addition for her. Especially on those days when her hair is just going to end up getting pulled back (which, if she’s like every other new mom in the world, will be frequent). The bangs might add a bit of spunk. Or finish. Or detail. And, you know, when you’re walking around with throwup on your shirt most of the time, all of those things just make life a little bit better.

i voted for option 2 because i actually think it’ll be less maintence – the bob seems like it’ll require so much more attention to it. plus the grow out would be easier with option 2. right? maybe that’s just me since my hair grows ridiculously fast.

also rebecca? you look amazing in that photo.

I agree on the no time for bangs as a new mama. That’s why I voted for #1 too. I also feel like that still allows her to pull back in a ponytail when she needs to, or just tuck it behind her ears to get it out of her face, while still looking stylish and sassy.

Congrats to Rebecca on the adorable baby girl, and to Whoorl on NATIONAL TV-ness!
    :)

OK, so yes, I love the idea of ponytail bangs. But I can’t for the life of me get them to look that cute. HOW does one do cute ponytail bangs? How, Whoorl? Please do a tutorial…I need help.
Oh, and because of my bang-angst, I voted #1. No bang futzing with a new baby.

For the love of god, Rebecca…a tinge of gloss, great hair and thin, shapely arms on DAY OF BIRTH? No wonder Whoorl has you chosen for the t.v. debut….
My vote is for Jenny’s blunt cut…I feel like it will be more dramatic and a big change. The other one just feels too close to the current cut and I think it will morph back to the old ‘do over time.

  22. AmandaLNo Gravatar

    April 24th, 2008 11:56 am

I voted for Option #1, also… mostly because, like Jamie, I can’t imagine that Rebecca will have time to deal with the bangs. I mistakenly got bangs a few weeks ago, and while I do agree that they add a level of versatility, I am not loving them, and therefore cannot vote for a look with bangs!

  23. sunnyNo Gravatar

    April 24th, 2008 12:11 pm

I’m getting passionate about this participant!
Thing is, Rebecca doesnt have the kind of face that will look scrunched or super tired with bangs. Not everyone can pull bangs off – for this reason. Rebecca has a beautifully shaped, open face that bangs will compliment! The jenny bob is a little snoozeville.

Jenny McCarthy’s ‘do is very chic, and it would look awesome on Rebecca. Although… I’ve seen Jenny do the talk-show circuit and sometimes she looks like she’s always fussing with it, looping a strand behind her ear, like it’s getting in her face or something.

Rebecca, you will look gorgeous no matter what style wins! Good luck, and can’t wait to see the show!!

  26. DanielleNo Gravatar

    April 24th, 2008 2:43 pm

I voted for number 2 solely because I think she’s more likely to get that length hair back into a ponytail, and as far as I’m concerned, the ability to get the hair in a ponytail is a vital part of new-motherhood.

  27. katNo Gravatar

    April 24th, 2008 2:49 pm

sorry it’s me again! i’m definitely on the bangs wagon.

if you don’t have the time to deal with them, couldn’t you just pin them back? (very cute) have a cute sporty headband (very cute).

plus! think of the TV. the rhianna/katie holmes/jenny mccarthy look is passe! it’s been done! team bangs.

    April 24th, 2008 7:43 pm

How do I vote? I would vote for #1. I like the bangs look on Sarah Chalke, but Jenny’s look looks like less of a hassle and great for Rebecca’s pretty and thin face.

  29. alisonNo Gravatar

    April 25th, 2008 3:26 am

I went with number two because as a somewhat new convert to bangs, I actually can spend less time on my hair now and end up looking more put together. Before bangs my ponytails just looked messy and like I had no time to do my hair that day. With bangs, it takes me less than five minutes to style them and then toss the rest of my hair in a ponytail and look like I actually spent time on my hair. That being said, I don’t think she can go wrong with either option.
And this IS all so exciting!

I went with #1 I had bangs for a period of time after having a baby and maybe it was just me but they were more annoying than helpful. Plus they had to be styled every day. I didn’t have time for that. But like others have said she will FAB with either one!

TV! are you kidding, Your almost a Rock Star Whoorl, heck with the guitar playing you have been doing you might already be one!

  31. sarahNo Gravatar

    April 25th, 2008 5:43 am

i chose number 2 because of the cute bangs+ponytail combo. maybe a little more maintenance…but honestly this may be the last time she’ll have a spare sec to do the bangs…as in, NOW when the baby will sit still for longer than ten minutes vs when she starts crawling or (gulp) walking. just my opinion!

I voted for #2. Her hair looks like it could handle bangs with little to no styling involved.

On a side note: I have curly hair and I got some of the John Frieda dream curls spray that Whoorl suggested for Marya last time and I LOVE it. It gives me soft curls without that stiff heavy feeling that a lot of sprays give. Thanks Whoorl!

Hey, here’s the thing with style #1. (Which I have had, mom of 2) With hair that is angled–even slightly–from front to back, when you pull it back in a pony tail, there is going to be the little ponytail, and some longer messy bits (the longer ends in front) sprouting OUT of the ponytail. Looks a mess. I think angled styles don’t look all that good tucked behind your ears, either. With a new baby? Lots of tucking and pulling back… I think style #1 will be too much work! Bangs = easy like Sunday morning.

I definitely vote for #2. I’ve always been a bangs person. At that length it is always easy to sidesweep them if you are in a hurry. I’m getting my hair cut and highlighted Monday and am tempted to take that #2 picture in for myself! haha

I voted for option #1, it’s so similar to what I have now and Rebecca’s hair kind of reminds me of my own. (Granted, a much healthier version of what mine was.)

I’m still trying to get over the fact that girlfriend looks like THAT immediately following childbirth. She doesn’t need a new ‘do, she needs a really big trophy. Wowee!!

Anyway, I voted for #1, just because it looks fairly easy to maintain, what with the new babe and all. I’m partial to bangs, personally, but in this case, I made an exception. ;)

Number 2! I love fringes (Australian for bangs), and I think 2 will be youthful and gorgeous on her. I agree, Rebecca has a beautiful face shape, and if she has naturally straight hair without cowlicks bangs shouldn’t be too much trouble at all, and they’ll add some interest to a ponytail.

  51. holliNo Gravatar

    April 28th, 2008 10:52 am

I think number one would be easier to style.. and would allow for longer time between cuts (which is a huge problem for me lately) and would be super cute in various banded styles (piggies, ponytail).

I totally need people to decide my hair like this – it looks awful right now and I’m absolutely indecisive!

    one, one, one!!
