Oooh, Oooh! A CONTEST.
Written by whoorl · Filed Under i love products, happy happy joy joy
I am completely obsessed with Etsy. I admit it.
A couple of weeks ago, I came to the conclusion that I need more earrings in my life. What’s the point of having your ears pierced if you aren’t going to adorn the holes? C’MON, PEOPLE.
So, Etsy and I did our little mating ritual, which resulted in the purchase of several pairs of simple, beautiful earrings. (Simple jewelry lovers UNITE!)
My very favorite pair were handmade by Kate Szabone, and they have become permanent fixtures in my earlobes.
Well, the lovely Kate accidentally printed out duplicate orders and sent me two pairs of these beautiful earrings, and when I emailed about the duplication, she kindly told me to keep them. (SCORE.) And as much as I would like to KEEP THE EARRINGS as backups, I thought it might be nice to share the love with y’all.

Aren’t they perfectly simple? And pretty? Can you not tell because my ears are devouring the entire photo?
These beauties need a loving home. (The new ones, of course. Not the ones in my ears- Whoorl is a proper hygiene advocate.)
So! Leave a comment starting now through midnight EST tonight, and I will randomly choose a winner to be announced tomorrow. Cool? Cool.
And for those people (like me) who need some sort of comment direction, tell me, do you have a free or attached earlobe?

March 25th, 2008 9:07 amMy lobes are freeeeeeeeeee.
Jeana
March 25th, 2008 9:11 amI’ve heard of people who do attachment lobing; you know, co-sleeping with their earlobes at night, carrying them in a sling during the day, but my ears are more a fan of the Free Lobe Movement, which I’m pretty sure dates back to the sixties. Flower lobes, VW jewlry boxes and all that. Make Lobe, Not War is what I say.
Molly
March 25th, 2008 9:11 amI have never commented on a blog before but I think I love these earrings so much, I just have to! They are simple and interesting…
Annika
March 25th, 2008 9:12 amI have the free lobes. Freeeeeeee. (And clearly am not the only one who cannot resist saying it like that.)
Karen Sugarpants
March 25th, 2008 9:13 amI think mine are attached - kinda half ‘n’ half maybe. They are pretty earrings & I’m a huge Etsy addict too. Especially the jewelry.
metalia
March 25th, 2008 9:15 amI have free lobes.
Torrie
March 25th, 2008 9:16 amMy lobes are free.
Also, does it matter if, um, the earrings aren’t, um, for your ears?
Peggasus
March 25th, 2008 9:18 amMine go commando.
Safire
March 25th, 2008 9:18 amMy lobes have been free for weeks…just looking for the right match.
Kerri Anne
March 25th, 2008 9:19 amI am addicted to buying (everything, but especially) earrings from Etsy.
Um, and I think mine are attached.
Meghan
March 25th, 2008 9:23 amCount me in, my fingers are crossed! (and my earlobes, they are free as a bird).

Stacy Lange
March 25th, 2008 9:25 amMy first comment to say that my earlopes are FREE! And I would love those earrings.
Angela
March 25th, 2008 9:26 amMy lobes are attached and begging for earrings. What a lovely find!
Jessica
March 25th, 2008 9:27 amMy ears… are.. um… attached? They’re tiny, which limits my earring selection to pretty much hoops. So these would be loverly!
BethanyWD
March 25th, 2008 9:27 amMy ears are free, yo.
Ines
March 25th, 2008 9:28 amMy lobes are completely unattached and unadorned, just like I like my men!!! LOL
Jillian
March 25th, 2008 9:29 amI have free earlobes and an urge to buy those earrings even if I don’t win them! Congratulations on finding beautiful jewelry on Etsy! It takes a lot of work to find something so nice.
The Muse
March 25th, 2008 9:31 amI’m all about the free lobing… mine are allowed to flap around to their hearts’ content when I roll down my car windows and cruise down the interstate!
Kindra
March 25th, 2008 9:31 amMine are free as a bird.
Katie
March 25th, 2008 9:33 amuh oh . . .
i have always felt inadequate because I can’t roll my tongue . . .
now I find that earlobes can be free or attached?? HUH???? Now that I know - I’m gonna want whichever I don’t have!! I have no idea which mine are . . . I mean . . . they are attached to my ear . . .
Cassandra
March 25th, 2008 9:34 amWould you believe I have one of each?
Sigh. I remember vividly, in 4th grade, learning about genetics, filling out a questionnaire. Do you have a widow’s peak, can you roll your tongue, etc. Everyone was asking about free or attached ear lobes, I asked. Each person on either side of me gave a different answer.
Then EVERYONE in the class had to see.
I’m still scarred by the whole experience, so clearly I deserve the oh-so-lovely earrings… *fingers crossed*
Saerah
March 25th, 2008 9:37 amWhat cute earrings!
Angie
March 25th, 2008 9:37 amMine are free and they’d love those earrings!!
Amy
March 25th, 2008 9:39 amI think mine are a little in-between, but more attached then free. You are very sweet to offer such a lovely gift to your readers!
Chris
March 25th, 2008 9:42 amMy ear holes yearn for those earrings. Well, if ear holes could actually yearn.
dregina
March 25th, 2008 9:42 amooooh, a contest! My earlobes, they are free.
Anna
March 25th, 2008 9:43 amOoh, pretty earrings. I never heard of the difference between free and attached earlobes before. I think mine are attached? I don’t know.
glamgranola
March 25th, 2008 9:43 amFree as a bird baby!
Mel
March 25th, 2008 9:43 amOh, my ear lobes are aching for those! :D
I’m bored with boring old silver hoops! :D
Chris
March 25th, 2008 9:44 amAnd those earlobes that have the yearning holes? They are free. Forgot to include that. Sorry.
kat
March 25th, 2008 9:45 amoooh i am now loving her jewelry. i have my eye on a few things. damn. so much for not shopping today!!
mine are free. kind of makes them sound a tad slutty, no?
Pooja
March 25th, 2008 9:48 amattached and proud of it! and those earrings are fabulous :)
Mary Sue
March 25th, 2008 9:49 amI had refused to wear earrings for the last 15 years, except maybe once every two years, because my ear-holes are extra sensitive and often get infected, UNTIL I figured out the magic of dipping the posts in Benadryl Gel or Neosporin before putting them in my ears. No more pain!
I feel like a whole world of cranial decorations has been opened up to me! And at this pivotal accessory time in my life, you should me this website which will allow me to spend hours of my day searching for the right pair.
Or, I could just win the ones you have. :)
Giselle
March 25th, 2008 9:49 amI can’t tell if mine are free or attached. I think a hybrid. More free than attached though, I’m pretty sure. I want the earrings!
Mandi
March 25th, 2008 9:50 amLove the earrings, love Whoorlie girl!
FREE lobes.
And, yes, simple jewelry lovers unite in harmony in a beautifully simple world!
vague
March 25th, 2008 9:51 amMine are attached. I don’t want those suckers wandering off on me, you know?
Also, I love etsy, too, but sometimes the sheer amount of stuff on there gets overwhleming. I need a personal etsy shopper to filter through it all for me. You busy? Heh.
Lisa
March 25th, 2008 9:51 amOH! I love those earrings! I am excited to wear earrings again, since I wont have any little monkeys trying to rip them off…
Oh, and I am quite “attached” to my ears. :P
della
March 25th, 2008 9:52 ammine are free
Brittany
March 25th, 2008 9:53 amThose earrings are beautiful! If I’m randomly chosen, I’ll be able to sport the earrings with whatever haircut I get on Friday after receiving Hair Thursday advice!
brookeraymond
March 25th, 2008 9:53 ammy lobes they are free and would love to be adorned with those perfectly simple earrings. I also would love to see what other earrings you bought because we seem to have similar taste in jewelry.
Gretchen
March 25th, 2008 9:56 amMan, I always thought free earlobes were kinda rare. Not based on these comments. Mine however are attached. And I’m loving those earrings! It’s so rare that I see non-stud earrings I like! (I’m not a big fan of regular hoops and dangly ones can feel so formal…)
Tressa
March 25th, 2008 9:58 amAttached and proud. My outer ear also has those ridgy things that my mom calls angel bites. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? There must be a biological term for that.
Jen
March 25th, 2008 9:58 amLOVE THOSE. Pick me, please!
heather
March 25th, 2008 9:59 amthese are so pretty!
is there such a thing as a mixed earlobe? i guess i would have to say mine is more attached than free… but it’s sorta iffy!
AppleTree
March 25th, 2008 9:59 amMy earlobes need adornment.
FK
March 25th, 2008 10:00 amFree lobin’ since ‘76.
Kelsi
March 25th, 2008 10:00 amMine are free!!!
Who are some of your favorites on Etsy? Do tell . . .
Audrey
March 25th, 2008 10:01 amAttached earlobes, badly in need of those earrings.
heather
March 25th, 2008 10:01 amwhat size are the earrings you purchased? i see she has several sizes for sale.
Those are the extra-small (3/4-inch).
Carrie
March 25th, 2008 10:02 amMy ears are free. You earrings are free. I think we have a match!
Celeste
March 25th, 2008 10:02 amMy lobes are attached and currently unadorned (just sayin’).
Dawn
March 25th, 2008 10:03 amDelurking to say I have no idea what a free lobe looks like as opposed to an attached lobe. Is that sad?
Also I love, love, love those earrings and simple jewelry is always the best. I think I am the only woman in the world who argued with her fiancé that she wanted a smaller wedding ring.
ash
March 25th, 2008 10:03 amattached!
RA
March 25th, 2008 10:06 amOoh, pretty! Here’s my raffle ticket! (But if they’re yellow gold, feel free to take me out of the mix. No can do the yellow gold.) Also, I have attached earlobes.
On another note, Etsy is kind of overwhelming for me. I have no idea where to start, and then I find myself at Ann Taylor or Anthropologie. Some suggestions for people to check out would definitely help take the edge off.
Ariel
March 25th, 2008 10:06 amYou have super cute ears!
I heart earrings, my favorite pair I inherited from my grandma. They are lovely but unfortunately/fortunately VERY formal- Trying to figure out if I can wear them when I get married next year.
And my earlobes? Free!
a madhouse wife
March 25th, 2008 10:07 amI checked the mirror to confirm: my earlobes are attached. And in need of a good pair of earrings.
Carrie
March 25th, 2008 10:07 amMine are attached and I have never thought about that distinction until today! LOVE the earrings!!
Erin
March 25th, 2008 10:08 amMine are hangin loose and looking to be beautifully (and simply) adorned:) I’ll cross my fingers.
All this earlobe talk has me singing the song from when I was little about your ears hanging low, wobbling to and fro, tying them in a knot, tying them in a bow, etc etc. Hee - I’ll be hunning it all day!
Jen
March 25th, 2008 10:08 amI have two pretty tiny, attached earlobes.
Nic
March 25th, 2008 10:11 amOh my gosh! I love them, and if I don’t win, I’m going to be getting them!
Christina
March 25th, 2008 10:12 amMine are free. And for the love of pete, I am also Etsy-obsessed. It’s a sickness, really.
Leah
March 25th, 2008 10:13 amI love those earrings so much it almost makes me want to pierce my (unattached) earlobes. *gasp*
justAcliche
March 25th, 2008 10:14 amI have been drooling over kateszabone’s earrings for a while now. (for my attached lobes)
I love maryandjane’s stuff too. I got a pair of those for my birthday. Yay for husbands who shop the links you send:

March 25th, 2008 10:19 amNice earrings! Hopefully I’ll win them for my free lobes.
Alicia
March 25th, 2008 10:20 amI’m an attached kinda girl… thanks for making me feel like a freak 9th grade biology teacher! I’m also a complicated earring kinda gal, so don’t pick me! :-)
Michelle
March 25th, 2008 10:22 amAttached…I wonder if that is one of those inherited genetic traits like having a Widow’s Peak? Hmmmm….
diane
March 25th, 2008 10:24 amFree earlobes over here! I love that you asked that question….when I talk about it, my friends think I’m crazy.
snowberrylane
March 25th, 2008 10:24 amfree! Interesting side note-when I got my ears pierced (at 21!) I had to get studs with longer posts because my ears were too fat =)
June
March 25th, 2008 10:25 amPlease, please pick me!
LVGurl
March 25th, 2008 10:26 amAttached.
Jessie
March 25th, 2008 10:27 amThose are gorgeous and totally my style! I have attached earlobes, but my husband calls them “streamlined”. My whole family teases me about my earlobes because they are nearly non-existant. Just enough room for one pierced hole perfect for dainty earrings.
gorillabuns
March 25th, 2008 10:28 amFree - to be you and me.
Amy
March 25th, 2008 10:28 amCute! I too adore simple jewelry. Please enter me in the contest.
Andrea
March 25th, 2008 10:31 amMy lobes are free … free of earrings too waiting for these beauties to adorn them! :-)
Kathy K
March 25th, 2008 10:31 amLOVE the earings. Love your site :) Oh and my ears are free. :)
Nicole
March 25th, 2008 10:31 amOk, I’m in for the contest! Those earrings are lovely.
Emily
March 25th, 2008 10:33 amHuh, even if I don’t win, I think I’m going to acquire a pair anyway!
I have what I like to call “hanging lobes.” Dave has attached lobes, but clearly hanging lobes are the dominant gene because Asher got them too. Dave is still bitter.
abbersnail
March 25th, 2008 10:33 amMy lobes are free like the wind… and my love for Etsy knows no bounds.
Jen
March 25th, 2008 10:34 amThey are beautifully simple, as all life should be! : )
Mine are free.
Beth
March 25th, 2008 10:34 amFree lobes. Also of note–I have had the same earrings in my ears every day for the past nine years. Every holiday my mother pleads with me to switch them out and wear one of the many pairs she continues to gift me. I have to admit, these are totally cute enough to make me *finally* remove the current pair, which of course pales in comparison to the joy of the potential true winner, my mother.
Amanda
March 25th, 2008 10:37 ammy ear lobes, like America, are Free!
Jamie
March 25th, 2008 10:44 amAll of my lobes are attached, including my ears and my brain(s). Which, come to think of it, is probably something for which to be thankful.
MissyE
March 25th, 2008 10:47 amFree as a bird!
carrie
March 25th, 2008 10:47 amThose are so cute & dainty… and would look perfect on me! Thanks for the giveway.

March 25th, 2008 10:48 amMy free earlobes love love love those earrings.
Jummy
March 25th, 2008 10:48 amI thought mine would be attached from the diagram on wiki but it turns out they’re free! Those are very pretty earrings, Whoorl, and hopefully I’m the lucky winnah!
Alicat
March 25th, 2008 10:51 amtotally free lobes baby.
Mandee
March 25th, 2008 10:51 am[Feeling earlobes while typing with one hand]
I believe they are free; free as a bird. And they would love lovely in those simply beautiful earrings.
I second RA above–I love Etsy but never have a clue how you people find all the cool stuff.

Susie
March 25th, 2008 11:02 amMy earlobes must be free. Please let them be adorned!
Valerie
March 25th, 2008 11:02 amI actually have a free AND an attached earlobe. One of each!
I found this out when I was in high school and the honors biology class did their annual questionnaire about heredity, and the “free or attached” question was one they always asked. The second year we were surveyed, the person covering our classroom looked at me and said, “yours are free,” and wrote it down. I said, “wait a minute, last year they were attached!” Sure enough, they were different.
Lissa
March 25th, 2008 11:02 amoh I love Etsy and I must say it’s a good thing it’s blocked from my work or else I wouldn’t get anything done!
Julie
March 25th, 2008 11:04 amI’m a recent Etsy addict and I’m looking for a new pair of gold hoops as one of mine fell out of my earlobe while I was washing my face yesterday (sob!)
Oh, and I am free. Well, at least reasonably priced.
Just a girl
March 25th, 2008 11:05 amI love my free lobes and I love those earrings.

just like those earrings i’m about to score ;)
Jennifer
March 25th, 2008 11:12 amI love those! I am all about simple and clean. While I love a little sparkle and dangle for a night out, I stick to a pair of diamond studs for the most part.
Kate P
March 25th, 2008 11:17 amMine are free. And those earrings are cute.
Ilana
March 25th, 2008 11:18 amMy earlobes and me, we are attached at the um, uh, err, ear? Which is I suppose preferable to other forms of attachment…
Marin
March 25th, 2008 11:20 amFree, as free as the wind blows…I could go on, but I think it’s better that I not.
Devon
March 25th, 2008 11:21 amlove the earrings…they might just entice this unattached earlobe chic to wear earrings more often
Katie
March 25th, 2008 11:23 amMy lobes are attached. But I’m not sure for how long due to the young boy’s interest in fine jewelry!!
Nicole
March 25th, 2008 11:23 amlobey lobey loooooowww
Love those earrings!
mn michelle
March 25th, 2008 11:24 amI have free lobes and love Etsy. I keep raving about it to everyone and no one else knows what it is! I am currently trying to copy some of the cool things I see there (cute diaper bags, changing pads and ponytail holders), but I am not quite a sewing machine maven quite yet!
Ms. Crafty Wanna-Be
March 25th, 2008 11:25 amLOVE them! And my lobes are unattached….in an attached to my head way. :)
Sharri
March 25th, 2008 11:33 amI have free lobes. And I love Whoorl!
Manda
March 25th, 2008 11:34 amMy earlobes are attached. And small. I have ridiculously small ears. One year for my birthday my husband got me a pair of diamond studs and he apologized profusely about how small they were until I put them on … they didn’t look so small anymore!!
Hee! Young love!
Rhi
March 25th, 2008 11:34 amFree! Mine are FREE!!!

March 25th, 2008 11:37 amI have free earlobes - just the way I like it.
Muse
March 25th, 2008 11:38 amI’m a free-lober. And I’m a little worried about winning this contest because “The Muse” already commented and while we share the same (fabulous) name, we are different people. I’m sure “The Muse” is a wonderful person, but you should probably pick me.
In closing, please pick me because I love those earrings and you.
You. (and those earrings). Complete. me.
ikate
March 25th, 2008 11:41 amI have free earlobes (and hopefully free earings to go with them)
I’m with you on the simple jewelry - LOVE IT. I prefer to wear the same earings all the time, in fact when I find a pair I love I never take them out - much like my wedding ring, they become a permanet part of me. That is until they start to twist or, um rust. Yes that has happened to me. :(
Rhea
March 25th, 2008 11:42 amAttached!
I’m addicted to ETSY!
Elizabeth
March 25th, 2008 11:43 amMine are hanging free and low right now! I just know that some new friends would help them out so much!!

March 25th, 2008 11:45 amConsider me entered.
I don’t feel the need to say anything else (like, about my ear lobes.) :)
Erika
March 25th, 2008 11:47 amI have attached lobes. I need these earrings because two weeks ago I cut my hair off. I wanted to have natural hair instead of chemically relaxed hair. I have not been able to find any cute earrings, although now I will check etsy. Please help me so that my four year old daughter can stop telling me I look like a boy!
Amanda
March 25th, 2008 11:48 amThey are free! (my earlobes.)

Now everyone is going to want them!!
andrea
March 25th, 2008 12:02 pmFunny you should ask about my earlobes. They are an ongoing source of conversation around our house as they are free as can be. Jon on the other hand has attached and although his genetic make-up took over when it came to almost all of Charlie’s lovely features the kid was lucky enough to end up with my earlobes. I take great pride in that.
Gina
March 25th, 2008 12:05 pmFree as, uh, birds they are. My earlobes I mean.
Sorry - my mommy brain is preventing me from writing coherently.
SleepyNita
March 25th, 2008 12:08 pmI have free lobes. The rest of me is quite cheap as well. ;)

My lobes are free, none of that attached mumbo jumbo.

March 25th, 2008 12:35 pmFree… and thanks for sharing another Etsy designer. My bank account doesn’t thank you but my jewelery collection DOES!
Beth
March 25th, 2008 12:36 pmWow, way to make those lurkers show themselves!
They are indeed beautiful in their simplicity, those earrings. So simple, I wonder why I’ve never seen anything like them before.

And I happily have two piercings on my right ear and three on my left (the two usual and a cartilage piercing)…so I always need new adornments!

March 25th, 2008 12:49 pmIf you’re choosing a winner by creativity, Jeana should win- Hilarious! But if you’re choosing at random, then I should win- Well, hopefully anyway!
And for those of you interested- my earlobes are attached.

March 25th, 2008 12:54 pmMy lobes are free! I’m glad to hear of another etsy shopper - glad mostly because I’m an etsy seller (www.theletterb.etsy.com) thought, sadly, not a seller of lovley earrings.

March 25th, 2008 1:00 pmElegant and divine.
My earlobes are free but picky. I’m allergic to everything but solid gold which is why I have only one pair of earrings and look with longing on every other unattainable pair in the world.

March 25th, 2008 1:24 pmOoh - those are great earrings!
My earlobes appear to be neither free nor attached - you cannot box them in with your labels. They are unique. And weird, apparently.

March 25th, 2008 1:53 pmI have semi-attached earlobes. They are quite detached but they have some definition.
I love those earrings! And what a good idea to go to Etsy for earrings! It is so simple yet, I haven’t ever thought of it!
Also, I haven’t a blog so I can’t tell you to read it. :)

March 25th, 2008 1:54 pmI have attached earlobes BUT one of my earlobes is split halfway up since while I was a fetus, the doctors have told my mom, I was leaning against her hipbone. It looks like I had an earring ripped out. I am an ear freak!
Summer
March 25th, 2008 1:56 pmMy earlobes are free, but small. And they do conveniently have those adornment holes….
