Happy Easter.
I just accidentally erased every single feed on my Google Reader. (200+ blogs.)
Years of finding great writers and POOF! Gone into the black night.
(breathing into a paper sack)
((Would it be poor form to compare Jesus rising from the dead to my Google Reader reincarnation? You know, like a new start? Free from past sins of the fathers?))
(((Going to pray for forgiveness.)))
Do I read your blog? Should I read your blog? What blogs do you love? Suggestions? (Seriously, don’t be shy. This is a desperate call for ASSISTANCE.)

Oh man, this gives me chills. Going now to find a way to back up my Google Reader…
…and yes, you should read my blog. Though to be completely honest, I can’t think of a single reason why, unless you really like golden retrievers and lots of sacrelige.
Actually that’s a great reason!
Oh, but I DO read your blog! (In fact, you were one of the inaugural adds in my Rebuilding Google Reader 2008.)
I always add my blog feeds from bloglines to my favorites folder. And then I export that, because oh yes, this has happened to me and I only have 49 remembered blog feeds from my previous 200. But life is remarkably more simple now.
And I don’t know as I’d recommend reading my blog. I’m very neglectful of it; I’m sure the Internet is preparing a criminal neglect case against me.
But Happy Easter anyway!
I am so dumb that I only started using Reader like 2 months ago! And yet, this is my worst nightmare.
Holy crap. I have never dreamed up this possibility and I am freaking out…because this is so something that would happen to me. You have my unmitigated empathy, sister!
Take a couple of shots of whatever you need (vodka? tequila? limoncello to be festive?) out of half a plastic easter egg. Maybe that will subdue a bit of the pain. (Re-)collecting your blogs will be like your grown-up easter egg hunt today. Just keep that bottle and 1/2 and easter egg nearby. Happy hunting.
I am breathing in to a paper bag for you – can you share with us how you did this so we can, um, NOT DO IT?
Yes, good point! Okay, obviously, I’m not really SURE how it happened (it was just SO FAST!), but I have all of my feeds categorized into 3 folders. I was attempting discard the multiple folder idea and move all the feeds into one folder, which I did. THEN, I tried to delete the two folders that I no longer wanted (after transferring the feeds into the remaining folder), and when I hit delete, it erased ALL feeds out of ALL the folders. Shit.
That blows. Really. Blows.
But isn’t it sort of cleansing in a way…
(focusing on the positive)
You should read my blog. You won’t necessarily get anything out of it. But sometimes I’m funny. That’s what the voices in my head tell me anyway.
And- I’ve been getting lots of comments on my hair lately. Which makes me think in my head “Whoorl would be so proud”. (even though you have no idea who I am because I only stalk your blog)
Good luck!!
Wow, that’s a lotta blogs, woman.
So, while this mishap may appear tragic, perhaps it’s the universe’s way of saying, “Whoorl, winnow down the list.”
As for reading me, I’ve been boring myself lately. I can’t fathom how much I’m boring others. But if I ever get my Stella-esque groove back, there might be something worth reading. (Though I did whip up a post the other day featuring a video clip of Ciaran Hinds looking dashing, talking about “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day,” [which EVERYONE should see]. So that alone is worth a visit.)
I think I might have been exaggerating on the blog number. I remember taking it down to about 100 a while ago, but then I started adding again. Regardless, I am making a point to keep it around 100 this time. (Maybe. I just love me some funny blogs.)
Wow, that’s so scary! Well not oooh scary but man, I’d have a lot I would miss out on if I did that myself scary. :-)
I personally think Easter is the perfect time to spring clean your feeder; declutter, rid yourself of unnecessary blogs, minimalize, then pick up some new feeds for ’08. :)
Man, that sucks. Can we find a way to blame Ramon?
I don’t know if you read my blog, but I read yours, and you do follow me on Twitter, and I think we’re contacts on Flickr, too. So if you haven’t read my blog yet, I guess that’d be the next step in our virtual relationship. :)
(Hoping you find some wormhole back to a day ago when all your feeds were still properly housed in your Google Reader. That sucks!)
well, you SHOULD be reading me, but I’m not sure if you do anymore. :) heh. (This is ali formerly of something so clever)
Oh man, I would totally cry if I lost my google feeds! Maybe you’ll wind up finding a bunch of new stuff this way, though.
Here’s what I read, though that list isn’t 100% up to date — I think, sadly, some of those blogs are basically dead. But it’s a pretty good list.
Yikes! That is so scary. Thankfully I have a lot of them backed up on Bloglines. Still…
Yikes! Good luck, woman. I didn’t even know that could happen!!!
…off to figure out how to back that shite up!
Oh, YIKES! I would have a heart attack. I’m around 160 and there is no way I’d remember all of them.
I thought the title of this post was “Easter Picnic.” And I read it and kept waiting for the “picnic” protion of the program to be described.
You don’t want to read my blog. I am a moron.
Wow, apparently I don’t read enough blogs, because I’m only at the 55 mark. It explains why I am always the last to hear of any Web Fracas, though.
I don’t know that my blog is worth reading. Once in awhile I write something sort of brilliant, but in between… let’s just say there’s an awful lot of blathering about things that probably nobody cares about.
Go read Bella at http://beyondthemap.blogspot.com/. She is brilliant all the time.
If you’re not already, you should be reading Holly at Nothing but Bonfires, she is fabulous! And Fabulously Broke in the City, Chirky, Dooce, Amalah, Thirty Before 30, My Big Fat Italian Life… these are all favourites of mine. I also love Brazen Careerist and Meg Fowler. Good luck refilling your feed reader!
You could read me, not so much of a commitment I only update a couple times a week…. but seriously – I am more interested to see who people recommend.
I personally believe that Jesus is laughing at your comparison. Because He has a sweet sense of humour. He also liked wine.
I think you and I read a lot of the same people, so my “Fantastic Finds” (Of which you are one. Obviously.) on my link page may be of assistance.
xo
Wow, that sucks…Sometimes I get so overwhelmed that I think losing all of them might be sort of a relief, but who am I kidding? I’d be freaking out, too. So sorry.
*UPDATE* I currently have my new and improved reader up to 48 feeds. (My links page came in VERY handy, you see.)
I think this was a blessing in disguise. A little spring cleaning is good!
How did you do that? I’d like to know so I never do it.
I’m so sorry…
I’m pretty sure you don’t read my blog, but I’ve been reading yours for a while now. I like it.
Good luck!
I once erased my entire feeds on purpose to clear out some of the blogs I don’t read at all. I reentered everything from memory. It was actually kind of interesting to find out what I actually do read compared to what I had in my feeds.
Don’t forget me! You know, for when I post every other week :D
Pathetically, I’m using Bloglines, but if that happened . . . I would be sitting at my computer staring at Yahoo thinking, “I know there was more than this on here.”
Good luck getting your list back!
I’m pretty sure you don’t read my blog either. But thats ok… I use my favorites folder in Safari, but I am too lazy to transfer them over to Firefox, which works a lot better. Maybe it is time for some spring cleaning of my own…
:)
Yikes, I feel for you, I really do. A similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago with my newsreader.
Hopefully, you’ll be able to reconstruct it somehow. And then back up your list of feeds from time to time in the future (that was my husband’s advice when something similar happened to me).
Wow. I’ve just started ading my favourite blogs TO my favourites. I’ve been relying on my memory and other peoples links pages!
There are at least … I don’t know how many that I’ve read, loved and promptly forgot about.
Is it possible that your google reader will be ressurected in six weeks?
*ducking – just in case*
eek! I just read your explanation for how this happened so that I DO NOT accidentally do this myself. I would be lost without Google Reader! Good luck getting things back in order…!!
That would FREAK ME OUT if that happened. AAAACK!
I understand why you panicked – but now I’m thinking of deleting and starting over from memory – like Heather B. suggested. Sounds kinda nice, actually.
(oh, and you did add Stuff White People Like, right? Because it’s pretty darn funny.)
I recommend She Likes Purple, though you are probably reading her already. :-)
(And me, of course.)
I read you…My husband reads you… Sometimes we pretend to be you and D… and then I remember that we live on opposite coasts, I weigh like 100 lbs more than you, Jon weighs like 200 lbs more than D…Oh and i have like FOUR more kids than you… So pretending to be you, it gets WICKED hard sometimes. But living in a fantasy world isn’t so bad right?
All joking aside, I’ve been reading you for forever and a day, or at least 2 years and I love it. When I was in the hospital with my one twin daughter, I read ALL of your archives. I was UBER bored. You kept me very entertained. So thanks for that!! :)
I’m so sorry. My 2 favorite somewhat “lesser known” blogs are:
picklesanddimes.com
everydayreading.blogspot.com
Yikes! You are welcome to read me, I’m not on Dooce’s level, of course, but my five readers like me. ;) I think I’ve found some new blogs to check out just by reading the comments.
Oh no! You can read my blog whenever you want, but my hair isn’t as good as you:
madeinrichmond.net
Pick me! Pick me!
Ok, all jokes aside, here are a couple of blogs I would recommend :
http://www.collegecallgirl.blogspot.com (Stories of a college call-girl. She writes fabulously)
http://www.postsecret.blogspot.com (PostSecret. If you have not heard of this yet, then you haven’t lived)
http://www.thesartorialist.blogspot.com (Scott Shuman is The Sartorialist. He basically gets paid to take pictures of pretty people.. Bastard)
you read mine sometimes, you know, when I remember to pay you. kidding!
I read you too! I think you might already read DaMomma, and Dooce, but in the spirit of sharing I’ll suggest them anyway, :)
I barely ever post anymore so I don’t think anyone reads me, which I’m on my way to making peace with, after I finish feeling like a loser. :)
of course you should read my blog….five kids (4 girls and the only boy) from young adult to teens to pre-teen to kindergarten age (with special needs), a grandbaby on the way, a husband and a career as a baby catcher and baby-saver in a busy level III NICU what else would i be doing but juggling?
seriously, i don’t presume to think you do read my blog, but you should and the fact that 1500 people curious about my coke bottle glasses has nothing to do with that.
now to make sure my blogroll is bookmarkerd and current should my google reader decide to die too.
I only just found you like a week ago, but I have been thoroughly enjoying you! I would highly recommend boobsinjuriesanddrpepper.blogspot.com. I swear this is some of the funniest and most touching writing I have ever stumbled across. Also http://www.thebigmamablog.com and boomama.net.
If you are really bored, ya know insomnia or the cable is out or something you can pop over and visit me…but mine is just a baby blog, only having just realizing that I could harness the power of the internet to dump out the contents of my brain and burden other people with them.
Ugh. Sorry for your loss. I hope your reader goes the way of Jesus.
I’m at http://almostlucid.com. 1′s of people think I’m fascinating.
Now that sucks. I didn’t realize that the readers could be cleaned out! Must find a way to back up the system.
At least you have Easter chocolate to comfort you, right? I’m off to hug my reader and tell him how I much I love him and beg him to never leave me.
Can you use your cache or browser history to restore most of them? My browser keeps a history of a week or so. If yours does the same, you can find anything you’ve read in the last week.
