hair thursday makeover 28

Hey, I’ve got three updates for you tomorrow so be sure to check back. (Also, if you have an update for me, send it over and I’ll add it in.)

Kristen:

Kristen’s hair:

Naturally dirty blonde, but colors it a reddish auburn
Chemically processed, a little bit on the dry side
Thick, fine and straight
Likes long hair, but thinks the length is too much for her 5’2″ frame
Shoulder-length is as short as she wants to go
Uses Frederic Fekkai products
Loves ponytails

I really love Kristen’s current color. That reddish auburn is well suited for her complexion, and I would never have guessed she didn’t have some sort of red undertone in her natural color. So keep on keeping on with the color. As for the length, I do agree that it’s definitely too long for her petite frame, but her hair is very healthy looking. I think she could work with several options to keep some length for ponytails and such.

kristen_options.jpg

Option #1 – Below shoulder length, with the top and side sections angle-layered to create a full shaped style. (Pretty.)

Option #2 – Above shoulder length, with soft face framing layers to add shape around the face. (Lots of length coming off, but would be a fun change.)

Both styles are easy to maintain with regular trims.

Sabrina:

Sabrina’s hair:

Currently, hair is honey brown with 5 month old blond highlights
Colors her hair a lot, changes with the seasons
Thick, normal-condition and a bit of wave
Hair has never been shorter than just above the shoulders
Wash and go and uses no products
She prefers sleek and smooth cuts, not choppy and textured. She’d love to get
away with continuing to not use product, and keep it low maintenance.

Alrighty then! Let’s see- sleek and smooth, no products, no maintenance. Well, that leaves us with TONS OF OPTIONS, SABRINA.

I say, let’s get out of the in-between length and go either longer or shorter.

sabrina_options.jpg

Option #1 – Sabrina would need to grow a few more inches (although her photos were sent last October – she could already be there). Then, add some face-framing layers around her front section to add shape and definition around her face. Very easy style to maintain.

Option #2 – Chin-length bob with a no severe angles. Very minimal texturizing keeps it smooth and sleek. Sabrina would probably need to use a blow dryer and/or flat iron to keep it smooth, though.

Option #3 – The kicker. If Sabrina wants to go shorter, but not THAT short, I also think the Sandra Bullock option in Kristen’s options (#2) would look cute.

  1. For Kristen, she reminds me a little of Alyson Hannigan so I did a little google image search and thought this might look really cute on her (in her current color):

  2. for kristen – she has such awesome cheekbones. i chose sandra b/c it’s a huge change and she could work it.

and i voted for sandra for sabrina as well – even up the bottom, make it sleek. hot!

on a side note, i was at target the other day and saw bumble bumble prodcuts there. i was shocked! and also curious to see if anyone or whoorl has used them and if they recommend them. i so badly wanted to try but the pricetag was hefty as compred to my $4 shampoo.

Yes! My Target had Frederic Fekkai stuff! I’m thinking of trying some B&B products and I’ll let you know…

  3. The greatest thing about your Hair Thursdays is not even the expert service to its participants, so much as it is: I keep finding pictures of haircuts I didn’t even know I wanted! I am too lazy to search the internet far and wide for the perfect photo of the perfect hair, but Whoorlgurl, you’ve got me covered. And now Sandy Bullock is getting printed in color and shoved in my bag for my next appointment.

Also, *love* the auburn color on Kristen and it totally works with her complexion – but if I may say so, the matching red eyebrows startled me a bit…I think a more neutral brow would be good for Kristen, like the redhead in Option #1 has.

  4. Linda Evangelista is SCARY!!

  5. Hooray! I made on Hair Thursday (finally)! I havent done anything with my hair since I submitted the request (except let it grow), but I have an appointment next week. I’ll send an update! Thanks so much!!

  6. Love Bumble and Bumble — it’s worked for me on multiple hair lengths. If it’s not in a salon, though, it may be fake (I’ve done some research).
For the second person, I have to say…she should break down and use some product. It’s going to make the smooth style a lot easier to deal with. If you use B&B, I’d recommend the Thickening Spray (and maybe some Tonic first). To finish, there are a couple of additional products, but they aren’t necessary (I do like a little bit of the Sumo Wax to smooth it out).
Can’t wait to see the update pictures!

  7. P.S. to kat — I’ve found I use way less shampoo and conditioner since switching to B&B. I now buy the liter bottles which is an even better deal (although it is quite a hit when I make the initial purchase).

  8. I love Bumble and Bumble products! The great thing about them is that the styling products (at least the straightening ones that I use) do not weigh my hair down and last forever. Their deep conditioner also softens my hair immediately. I also think that Sabrina should think twice about the use of products, because I think that using some products actually is lower maintenance, They help style your hair better and contribute to the sleek and smooth cuts that she loves.

  9. This is a little off-topic, and maybe I should have just emailed, but I’m lazy: my hair dryer died. AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO. What kind should I buy? SEND HELP.

  10. I was really into B&B back in the late 90s. Personally, I don’t think they hold up to FF products in the shine category but their tea tree oil shampoo has been a god send for my husbands oily scalp. Better then the Paul Mitchell tea tree.

  11. ps: I love the red head. good colorist you have there!

  12. I lurv that Sandra Bullock hair! I tried to get one of my friends to do that, but she wouldn’t! She’s such a baby…

  13. For Sabrina I think option #2 will bring out her pretty cheekbones, her big eyes, and make her look more sophisticated. I think she should be using a flat iron now to smooth the top of her hair but always use some kind of heat protectant. And just maybe consider more highlights, 5 months is a lot of growth (actually months since she submitted it in Oct.!) About Kristen, I agree about the oddly matching red eyebrows. The haircolor is gorgeous though.

My Walgreens has so much salon product selection. I know the salons say not to buy it anywhere but salons, but it isn’t medicine! How bad could it be even if it is expired a little? (BTW I take SOME expired medicines too–in most cases it just has less strength!)

  14. holy crap where has the MIZFIT been?
