Take a look around your room. Peek in your closet. Does a certain color rule the roost? Green has long been my favorite color, but I’ve definitely noticed a trend over the past decade. Most of my big ticket, beads-of-sweat-forming-on-the-brow-as-I-pull-out-my-wallet purchases have been in the bright grassy green shade that I love so much. Color trends may come and go, but I know many of these items will be with me for the long haul. Nothing makes me happier than a pop of bright green to liven up an outfit or a living space.

Do you have a favorite color when it comes to your home, clothing, and/or accessories? Is it the same color across the board or do you like different colors for different facets of your lifestyle? I love orange, bright yellow, and green for home accents and accessories, but find myself gravitating towards rosy pink, navy, and muted neutrals for clothing. What say you? I neeeeeed to know!

  1. I gravitate so much towards red that it has become somewhat of a joke in my family. I just can’t help it–nothing brightens up all my neutrals like a pop of deep red! My latest obsession? Red TOMS. They really dress up the jeans/tshirt combo. Although you’re starting to convince me I could use a few green items as well. So that I can, you know, look like a Christmas tree year round.

  2. Ris, my Red Toms are in constant rotation over here! (Of course, I usually tone down the green on those days…Christmas, like you said…)

  3. i love me some green too! But I have loved purple since I was a kid and can’t seem to shake that love as an adult.

  4. Loving coral this summer! I think I wear a lot of turquoise accessories. I should incorporate more green, though, I always get compliments when I wear that color!

LOVE your desk chair! Happy marriage, indeed! ;)

  5. I also love green. In fact, I’m wearing green currently. With a green patterned scarf. I love all your green accessories!

Also, delurking to say I’ve been a fan of your blog for a few years now, and I’m very happy to see frequent posts again!

  6. Lately mine seem to be red and teal.

  7. Purple. A deep, rich, eggplant with a hint a gray. I realized the other day when I was wearing my glasses (purple), holding my wallet & phone (purple & purple) and wearing flip flops (you guessed it, purple!) I may need to take a step back.

  8. Home decor, I learn towards warm, light gold. Yellow spoken here!

For clothes, though, I gravitate to green. A couple of years ago, it was a grassy, mossy green. (J. Crew cashmere sweaters, a gorgeous BCBG wrap dress, and green-gold peep toe pumps).

Lately, I’ve been leaning toward turquoises and teals…ones that are definitely more green than blue. Now that I think about it, the one recent purchase that has made to super happy was an umbrella. It’s white, with a grassy green AND turquoise bubbles/dot print. :)

  9. Oh, I love green too! I have that same wrap. I’m like you in that I seem to have colors I gravitate toward for home decor (grays, blues, chalky whites, dark browns, orange) and colors I embrace in clothing (warmer tones overall).

  10. Oooooooh….that ring…that ring!!!! My heart…..

  11. Purple is definitely my favorite. Green is #2. Like my kids, I have my favorites ordered :). In fact, I was thinking about doing a post like this, since I’ve noticed just how much purple I have in my home! I love it.

On a totally random note, I stumbled upon your dad’s candy stocking video early (way too early for me to be up watching a video on candy shopping ;)… It was quite entertaining. He’s a funny guy.

  12. I’m a blue girl all the way. All shades of it. The sky the ocean what’s not to love. I’m not a big green person at all. I don’t think I own one green clothing item. Maybe you are either blue or green. I also enjoy red for clothing,

  13. It’s aqua blue for me. :) My couches, my coach bag, my wedding shoes (and our whole wedding), my Kitchenaid stand mixer, the walls of our bedroom in our first house. All the same shade of blue.

Lately though I’ve been moving to a bright sunshine yellow instead. It calls my name.

And for clothes it is navy all the way. More so even than black. If it comes in navy, I must have it.

  14. green has totally moved up in my world for colors to wear, accent colors. and i tend to wear a lot of navy as a base since you can pair so much with navy. i particularly love orange and coral with navy.

  15. I’m a blue girl, with pops of red (when it comes to my house).

For clothes, besides the blacks and browns, I find that I buy a lot of purple. Though the new dress I’m wearing today is muted blues and greens.

(I’ll Instagram it later – it’s SO pretty.)

  16. PinkieBling says:

I know it’s often considered deeply uncool, but I’m obsessed with pink. It’s all over my personal effects (makeup bags, bathrobe, things like that), but I don’t decorate in it (except a few pink accents in my bedroom). My favorite decorating color is red. LOOOVE red! My wardrobe has a pretty good balance colors – except brown. I own nothing in brown.

  17. It is so funny that you posted this, as I was looking in my closet this morning, and thought it looked a little “Elle Woods” in there (God, that woman wears a lot of pink.) For my house, definitely blue. Navy prevails in both arenas.

  18. My basic home colors are warm golds (ivories and yellows too) mixed with barn red and touches of sage green – but many of my accessories are red. Red Pottery Barn weathered stools, throw pillows that are mostly red, a cool old red painted antique chair with lots of the paint chipped, a red antique fireman’s call box that hangs on the wall as art, a faded red vintage trunk with cool brass corners and leather straps, a 1950’s pristine condition Tonka fire truck and my favorite red item of all…my perfect shade of (not too orange/not too blue) red front door on my coffee with cream colored house with slightly off white trim. I made that decision 10+ years ago and get compliments on our door all the time…oh and I also have a big red Ford 4×4 pick-up truck. Yeah, I guess I like red accents.

  19. I love all the “greenery”! I want your purse, by the way. It’s upsetting how much I love it.

As for my color palette…for some reason, I tend to lean towards the teals and the pale green colors. I keep wanting to add more bright colors to the duplex (poppy, coral, orange). Although the wee one won’t have a nursery, I’m hoping to decorate her corner of our bedroom with those colors to brighten it up a bit.

  20. Everything I own (and every paint color in my house) is either periwinkle, pink, or purple. I love cool-toned colors.

  21. I’m a pink girl through and through…(although now that my 3 yr old will wear nothing else it’s losing a little of it’s appeal)
Did you see this green eye candy:

  22. Red – it’s always been red. My car is red, I decorate with red accents for a pop of color in my very neutral house, and most of my closet is red. Don’t ask about that one time I got married…wow, red overload.

  23. That painting is phenomenal!

  24. Mine is orange. Here is a picture someone took of me at a blogging thing, right after they laughed at me for taking out my orange phone from my orange purse while wearing an orange shawl.

    I have a problem.

  25. i have to say, i’ve long been a fan of the green.
but really i’m just distracted due to your CV Bando bag. I’ve had my eye on that bad boy for a while.

    do you love?

you know…thinking back, didn’t we meet over my obsession with your bag ;-)

  26. Orange~ at my house, with bits of yellow
but I’m really loving the green!
