Should I feel guilty that I didn’t send out holiday cards this year? I feel kind of guilty…

  1. You are hitting a much larger list with Whoorl! No guilt.

  2. I think it’s an outdated tradition. Some years we do, some we don’t.

  3. no,it costs a boat-load to mail them. now, i’m panicking to get ours out before new years.

  4. let go of the guilt. cuz if you feel guilty then i will have to feel guilty. i just don’t have the time and creativity to send them this year.

No, don’t feel guilty. It does cost a fortune to get them out, AND, if you’re like me, you keep track of who sent them to you. Here’s me, to Matt: “That bitch Millicent didn’t even send me one this year, AND I TOOK THE TIME TO SEND ONE TO HER. Welp, she’s not getting one next year, THAT IS FOR CERTAIN.”

So, if you’re a retributionist, don’t even bother. It creates more trouble than it’s worth.

  6. Agreed…don’t feel guilty. But I’m probably just saying that because I haven’t done mine yet, and probably won’t, even though they’re the funniest cards I’ve bought in years.

That being said, we’ve only gotten ONE card so far this year, so it looks like you’re not alone.

  7. UC,

Actually, we got married last year and sent out the CUTEST Christmas cards with a photo of us in a hammock on our wedding day in Hawaii.

So technically, since I haven’t had any major life changes this year, I should get a year off. :)

Yes. You got married this year, didn’t you? That’s an absolute mandate to send out Christmas cards with photos.

I was kind of feeling guilty myself… but then I realized, I’m not married. Don’t have kids. Sure as heck not sending out a picture of just myself. And a note to my friends is pointless since they know what’s going on in my life anyway.

You’d better believe the day I get married… Christmas cards all around. Well, not ON the day I get married. Unless, of course, I get married at Christmas. But that seems pretty unlikely.

  9. I’m not one to ask because I’ve always been anal about sending out cards. Now with the addition of my husband’s family, I usually send out 40-50 a year. This year I stressed because I didn’t think I could get the kids’ pictures taken in time. As it is, the pictures won’t be in until Tuesday and then I have to rush to get them in the mail to arrive before Christmas.

But no need to feel guilty on your end. Just don’t feel bad picturing me slaving away, while you enjoy a cocktail on the veranda … nah, don’t feel guilty at all … :)

  10. Postpone it and call them New Year’s cards. Or…just give yourself a break this year and do nothing. It’s not illegal.

  11. I truly believe that the year after you get married, you don’t have to do anything. Except drink a lot. At least that is what I did.

Ok, I retract me early comment. You’re off the hook for now… though relatives always love getting pictures of you… it helps ensure they’ll send a baby gift when that time comes.

But that’s me, always planning ahead.

  13. i never send them out and i don’t feel guilty.
