Cars 2 Mania

20

Wito is captivated by Cars. Sure, most kids go through phases of adoring certain toys or movies, but this Cars phase has now lasted over two years. 700+ days, not that I’m counting or anything.

Cars consumes this boy, and as you can guess, we have amassed an enormous amount of little diecast cars from the movie. It’s truly the best money I’ve ever spent, though, because he has played with the cars on a daily basis since he turned three. I even possess the photographic evidence to prove it.

Just shy of three years old. (Look at those precious cheeks!)

A few new cars for Christmas 2009.

Still loving them in 2010, banged-up paint jobs and all.

Meeting Lightning McQueen for the first time.

He played with the cars during our short stint in the mold box,

But was super happy when he found their true home at our current house.

Hanging out with his buddies again at the ripe old age of four.

Even branching out into Cars pajamas and stickers.

And still happy as a clam this week, a few months shy of five years old.

THE BOY LOVES HIS CARS. No doubt about it. Now, I’m not sure if you’ve heard but Cars 2 is being released on June 24th. If you were a friend of Wito, you would most definitely know this information since it has been spewing out of his mouth at 2-hour intervals since the date was announced late last year. (And I adore how he says, “The Cars 2 movie is coming out on June 24!” Not June twenty-fourth, June twenty-four.)

We are very excited over here. Checking the Cars 2 website for new characters and games is one of our favorite things to do right now, and I swear, the boy is about to implode since he knows we are less than a month out.

A few weeks ago, the Cars 2 diecast cars were released in stores, and this mom was on a mission.

Target. Sunday, 8:10 am.

I think I was the only customer in the store. (Which was mighty fine with this mild enochlophobe.)

Okay, are you ready? I am giving you full permission to mock me endlessly. This is what I had in my hand.

It’s a Cars 2 Buying Matrix Checklist. I WAS CONSULTING A CARS 2 BUYING MATRIX CHECKLIST. BWAHAHAAAAAAAA, WHAT HAS BECOME OF MY LIFE? Wait, don’t answer that. (Obviously, this was BEFORE I decided to work on being a laid back, B+ mom. Ahem.)

The things we will do for our kids. However, I must admit, it’s kind of nice knowing that his August birthday and Christmas gifts have been taken care of by May. Now I just need a place to hide all of this stuff.

I guess this is just a very long-winded way of telling you that we can’t wait to see the Cars 2 movie. CAN’T WAIT. I can’t wait to watch his eyes light up when the movie starts, can’t wait to hear his expert analysis afterwards, can’t wait for it all.

Wito seems to think that if we make the short drive up to the LA premiere on June 18th, they’ll let us in because Lightning McQueen is “one of his good friends.” So if you hear about a mother and son attempting to sneak into the Cars 2 premiere, well, my son made me do it. The things we do for our kids, right?

  1. OH MY GAH, we have the same scenario in this house! I kept scrolling and thinking “No, she hasn’t reached our level of nutty…” Then I saw the checklist and yup, you’re just as certifiable as we are! Do you know about the Kmart Cars days? They have exclusives there that they unveil at these events…

  2. You are the best mom ever.

  3. I am that mom too… add the fact that Finn McMissile is the new character and you’ll see why my Finn is BESIDE himself with anticipation. He tells people in the stores, people on the street, anyone who will listen. We have already doled out a few new characters {including the talking version of Finn} and have a few saved for his new baby sister to give to him in the hospital, I’m due to have her the Monday after the big opening.

The matrix….oh my. I love it. I need it. Luckily B isn’t too over the moon about Cars2 yet…he’s excited, but he knows movies in the theater are really loud and that scares him off…so that has tempered the excitement some. Thankfully. But I’m sure he’ll give in to it.

  5. You are awesome… and not alone. I basically did the same thing. We picked up a complete diecast set of the cars for our soon to be 4 year old and a bunch of Carla’s (because the collector snatching up cars informed me they would be valuable).

We’ve now ventured out into Cars books, blankets, and plates (see Zulily’s current sale).

Can’t wait until June 24th! (I think that is the date)

  6. The check list is both endearing and sweet and totally nutter butters. ;o) I would do it too if my kid was that into it.

Yep, I could have written this post, with a few minor changes. Our Boy is flipping the flip right out. Also, he knows new characters are either on the horizon or in the mail (we had to order some) or whatnot. Can’t WAIT to go to the movie.

  8. OF COURSE Jude would be right next to me as I read your post. He about had a conniption when he saw Wito with all his cars. We too have been counting the days til the Cars 2 premiere.

Ok, signing off — Jude wants to see the pictures of Wito and the cars some more. ::sigh::

  9. My nephew is the same way but it’s superheroes. In particular, Spiderman. He even put glue on his hands and feet and attempted to climb the wall. GOOD LORD.

Now see, talk about an Type A Mom… I haven’t even taken my son to his first movie yet… (Is that bad?) He turned four March 23rd and my husband JUST YESTERDAY mentioned that Cars 2 was coming out and that maybe it would be a good candidate for his first movie. My first thought was “Yeah – good idea It’s G…!” but then immediately, “but won’t it be really loud since it’s a movie about race cars…??” We thought about taking him a few months ago but it didn’t seem like there was anything G out and then we went and I was like, “this is really loud!” He’s seen Cars at home so maybe this is a good bet. I’ll bring ear plugs just in case! Way to get all your shopping done and hope y’all have a blast come June “twenty-four”. :-)

  12. The Bishop is waiting for June 24, not 24th, to go to the movie with his two big girls and two little boys. I guess Wita and I will have our own fun that day!!

  13. I fear the mania has already begun in our house as well….at the ripe old age of one and a half. Lots to look forward to! ;)

  14. OMG, Rowan is OBSESSED with Cars, Sarah! The other day he said to me, “I’m going to watch Cars, then Mater Tales, then Cars.” And then my head exploded. It’s funny, though, how this movie and these characters have grown on me over the course of at least 75 viewings. I don’t think it was until the 56th viewing of Cars that I noticed Sally calls Lightning “Stickers.” I mean, how cute is THAT? And, even though I hate country music, I really like Rascal Flatt’s version of “Life Is a Highway.” Like, I’ve caught myself dancing to it in the kitchen as I’ve made dinner.

We have decided to hold off on taking Rowan to D-land until next summer, when he’s 3 1/2, and when Cars Land will be open. But, his first movie theater experience will be on June 24. We’re counting down already.

  17. I probably don’t need to tell you, but I was just at H&M yesterday and they have a new shipment of CARS t-shirts. Super cute – your Wito just may love one.

  18. My 4YO spies the Cars2 billboards everywhere. Yesterday, he said, “Mommy Cars2 signs are all over because it is the most exciting thing happening, right?”

    Something like that…
