Has It Really Been A Week Already?

29

Man, I’m riding this hair thing to its death. I’m just a little busier than usual, with Father’s Day being yesterday and D’s birthday tomorrow.

Yesterday, an impromptu mini-block party erupted on our lawn complete with pear vodka. PEAR VODKA, I SAY! Has anyone had the pleasure of sipping on a little pear vodka? My neighbor put the hard sell on me – I’m not usually a flavored vodka drinker, but I finally caved in. And might I say, delicioso! So light and refreshing!

5 hours later, after strollering under the influence to the grocery store, I made rather tasty chipotle blue cheese burgers alá Rachael Ray. (Have I mentioned I’ve bought several of her cookbooks now? Why does she have to be such a good cook? I think I love her.)

Must go create tomorrow’s birthday menu. Oh yeah – if you haven’t sent a photo yet, WHY NOT?

  1. Never had the pear vodka, but why shouldn’t it be good?

    How did the burgers taste?

    They tasted sickeningly good.

  2. Ooooo my word, pear vodka sounds good! I’ve been 6 months now with no alcohol..and its starting to really drive me crazy. Oh, what I would do for some sangria! And blue cheese burgers! Sounds awesome. :)

  3. I have not sent a photo. I chopped all my hair off less than a week ago, and I am not ready to see it in photo form. Tell D Happy Bday!

  4. she might be incredibly annoying but her recipes kick all kinds of ass. just don’t watch her on tv!

  5. Finally, another post. We were getting tired of thinking about your lovely hair.

(personal note — do you remember I had a dream about you several weeks ago where you were combing your hair in my bathroom? And I’ve never even met you! ESP!)

    Happy birthday, D.

  6. I actually went to the Skyy Pear Vodka launch party here in Portland a couple years ago. It was delightful, and not just because of the free drinks (it was the free food too!)

  7. Cricket says:

That woman has the mouth of a bass. But her food is just too damn good. I have not had pear vodka… but I have had a pear margarita! Those rock, I highly recommend! (The Lazy Dog Cafe has them)

  8. I will have to try the recipe, it sounds good although blue cheese is kinda gross… the blue…it’s mold isn’t it?

  9. i’ve officially been banned from creating anything ala rachel ray. and for good reason. a while back she made this asparagus, pesto, pasta thing. sounds ok. WRONG! that and if i hear here say EVOO and trash bowl my mood suddenly turns sour.

oh, and pear BRANDY! yum!!!! (especially when simmered with some fresh fruit and served on a fabulous ice cream)

  10. undercover celebrity says:

Wow — that made me hungry!
Um… please share the chipotle bleu cheese burger recipe!

And, of course, happy birthday to D!

Here you go – we omitted the bacon, I think I would have had a heart attack right then and there.

  11. regarding pear vodka, I concur

  12. Sounds good but does it still taste like vodka?…Or more like pear? I like the idea of vodka. Swanky, low calorie clear liquor, that whole thing. However, liquor makes me want to gagggggg. Anyway, how fun is inebriated grocery shopping..Love it, used to do it all the time.

It’s a perfect balance of both. I usually drink vodka straight on ice though, so obviously, I don’t have issues with the taste of vodka. ;)

  13. Yes Kami, the blue is mold, but not the kind that grows on your shower stall:)

  14. My assistant/friend/partner in crime made me a *wicked* pear vodka and…something that masquerades as healthy, last week. To say that it may be the Elixer of both Life and (near) death is not far from the truth.

  15. thanks for the recipe…i’ll have to try those sometime even though her smile makes me want to stick a pencil in her eye.

as for pear vodka..yum! if you like mangoes, try mango vodka. extra yum!

I can’t even get past the feeling of mango in my mouth to enjoy the taste. Hello, furry.

  16. Pear vodka? I’m intrigued.

    Happy birthday, D!

  17. Hi,

I would love to send a photo, because my hair is naturally very very blonde, and it can be quite nice and shiny, but I have pneumonia and don’t remember the last time I washed, nay, BRUSHED my hair. I truly believe that if you saw a photograph of me in my current state you’d poke it with a stick while clutching Anders to your chest, and hiss “PSSSS! GET AWAY, CREATURE!”

I’ll send a picture when I don’t look like some kind of woodland fairy sprite anymore .

    Luisa.

    Wow, pneumonia! Get better soon!

  18. Can’t stand RR, but I have to admit she comes up with some creative easy meals. I can never cop to using her recipes when cooking for the husband, he has an even stronger dislike for her than I do and may just go as far as to not eat the meal if he knew I snuck one of her recipes onto his plate.

Pear vodka sounds so good, what kind of drinks were you all having?

Photo coming–pictures are on the ‘real’ computer which has been out of commision while we do a home makover.

Grey Goose Pear and tonic. Lots of calories, but soooo worth it.

  19. pear vodka is muy deliciouso (yeah, i figured i hacked up that translation!) but then again, i pretty much like every flavor of the vodka rainbow.

    surprised?

i know, i know…. you are thinking not-so-much, gorillabuns, you much go to detox but not before our holiday….

  20. natalie says:

Oh, there you are, thank God. I was getting scared of the amount of work I was actually doing…at work. I felt so alone.

I need to remember to take that picture…

  21. Ann Curry had preeclampsia.

I tell you this because I had preeclampsia, and it sucked, like, REALLY REALLY SUCKED and it made me think for a brief nanosecond that perhaps I might have a wee bit of sympathy tucked deep in my soul for Ann Curry and the hell she must have gone through as well, but then I thought better of it.

That woman makes me want to kick in the TV screen each and every time she’s on it.

  22. Darren McLikeshimself says:

    Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.

You can combine chipotle and hamburgers?

What the hell have I been doing with my life?!

  23. I watch 30 Minutes Meals every day on my lunch break. I just do it because I have the tendency to talk back to the TV and it’s so easy to make fun of Rachel and get out the day’s aggression. God my lunch hours are so lonely…

  24. I don’t watch either of those ladies much; but this I know, Rachel Ray’s voice totally grates on my nerves. I couldn’t believe that she got a TALK show.
Anyhoo, the Pear vodka sounds delish. I’ve just discovered Pomtini coolers, which I think will be my vice over the next few months.

  25. We are SO making those burgers. I’m all over anything with blue cheese!

I know Rachael Ray SHOULD bug me, but she doesn’t. I know, I know. I wouldn’t say I love her, but I can watch her and not want to punch her in the boobs. High praise, I tell you.

Also, pear vodka and tonic? Holy shit, that sounds delicious! Can I tell you how much I love being back home and seeing that all the drug and grocery stores have liquor aisles? Ahh, California. Why did I ever forsake thee?

  26. Hi there!

    (random stranger alert!)

Just stopping by to ask for your e-mail address… I’m working with Izzy on the Blogher list and we want to make sure to send you the spreadsheet and let you know about the Thursday night party.

    Best,
    OTJ

  27. cocodrie says:

Rachel Ray frightens me. If the powers that be conspired to create a fembot of the oh-so-bubbly variety, she is what would come out. On occasion, I keep expecting her to creak and need oil like the tin man.

Also, love the fact that the Google links are going hair products on your site. My dreams for your beauty savvy going world wide are in the works!

  28. Happy Bday DD!

Can’t do vodka since OU/Texas. Too many screwdrivers while underage. Bad combo. No idea how to choose my liquor back then. Stupid.
