Your Favorite Color Combo
Written by whoorl · Filed Under call me quirky, random
This is totally random, but did you have a favorite color combo back in your awkward middle school days? Pink and heather grey was a hot one during my middle school stint in the late eighties, but I preferred pink and royal blue. Because I was a REBEL, you see.
What about now? Oh, do tell. I love love love talking about colors. I’m quite partial to a red and turquoise combo myself.

January 6th, 2010 3:21 pmOh back then I loved black and white or black and red.
Wow.
Now I love pink and brown, green and brown or light blue and brown. Oooh ooooh or orange and brown! Yeah I win and brown!

January 6th, 2010 3:23 pmmy current absolute fav is turquoise and red combo! Second fav is fuschia/green combo. My middle school years I seem to have completely been blocked–they too were in the late 80s. Maybe its a sign that I wasn’t quite put together so my memory has conveniently forgotten it.

January 6th, 2010 3:23 pmBack then, purple and pink.
Now, grey and yellow.

January 6th, 2010 3:26 pmThen: Teal and white. (I had a “units” outfit I loved in those colors.)
Now: Purple & black… particularly my current outfit, which is a soft wine-purple sweater dress, black tights & pale-mushroom-y colored suede slouch boots. (I should’ve done a Working Closet post today – I’ll admit it, I look cute!)

January 6th, 2010 3:28 pmOh! I love these! I’m mentally creating outfits with these color combinations right this very second.
(Does that make me strange?)

January 6th, 2010 3:30 pmI loved red, purple and green, like this one ESPRIT sweatshirt my best friend had in fifth grade. Somehow it encapsulated all that was cool and classy to me. Ha.

January 6th, 2010 3:30 pmI’m digging on grey and yellow at the moment. And royal blue in general, but also with grey and black.
But oh how I rocked a purple and pink TIE-DYED shirt (with pink! shorts) in the 6th grade. Sadly there is photographic evidence. And feathered bangs, SAVE ME.

January 6th, 2010 3:33 pmAs a general rule in junior high, I tried to wear as many colors as possible. I was really into tie-dye. With shoulder pads.
My favorite outfit, though, was turquoise and white. Picture, if you will, a scrawny seventh grade girl with giant hair. White jeans, turquoise keds. Giant turquoise t-shirt – pulled over to one side in one of those t-shirt tie things – that reads NOT! in big white letters. Turquoise and white checked headband behind my huge bangs.
It’s amazing I made it out alive.

January 6th, 2010 3:41 pmTOTALLY pink and grey. I still have a nostalgic love for the combo, I must say!

January 6th, 2010 3:49 pmTo this DAY when my bff from 6th grade thinks of me she thinks of Dark Hunter Green and Royal Plum Purple. Oh yeah. and sometimes I’d be all teal and purple and it would mess her world up.

January 6th, 2010 4:01 pmI was always in to brown and blue or brown and pink. When I was younger and trying to not be noticed (my main goal for, oh, grades seven through nine), it was navy blue and olive. Please, don’t look at me.
I now like gold and turquoise, turquoise and coral, gold and red, and pink and gray.

January 6th, 2010 4:02 pmI probably wore EVERY SINGLE COLOR AT ONCE back in my awkward days, wouldn’t surprise me at all. But now I love turquoise and ANYTHING — my house is slowly turning into a turquoise and red shrine, but I’m also partial to turquoise and gold (like my wedding!), turquoise and dark smoky gray (also like my wedding!), and turquoise and hot pink.

January 6th, 2010 4:02 pmBack then… LOVED hot pink & black.
Now, LOVING chocolate brown & turquoise, brown & grey, orange w/ red accessories.
This is fun!

January 6th, 2010 4:06 pmThen: hot pink & purple, usually in the form of two pair of socks, alternated & DIFFERENT COLORED UNLACED KEDS. Hot.
Now, red & turquoise or pink & green.

January 6th, 2010 4:08 pmI was partial to watermelon (or hot pink) and lime back then, but I love turquoise with white and orange right now… more for decor than clothes though. I guess turquoise seems to be a bit of a color of the moment, judging by everyone else’s preferences!

January 6th, 2010 4:23 pmI was a big fan of fuchsia with teal. I’m not proud.

January 6th, 2010 4:24 pmThen: probably hot pink and electric blue.
Now: It changes a lot but my favorites lately are a navy & berry combo OR mustard & eggplant. And then if we’re talking triads, I love my some purple with green and red-orange. (Dark green and eggplant hues, of course. Nothing eighties here.)

January 6th, 2010 4:38 pmI really did like and still do like fuschia and orange. That sounds bad, but I had this jacket that was that color and I LOVED it. It reminded me of this bubble yum that I liked that had orange inside of pink. That was actually in elementary school for me.
I was in middle school for the flannel phase. So, I guess I liked plaid.
I’ll have to think about what else I like, now. I do have some funny or odd ones.

January 6th, 2010 4:44 pmJr. High? Turquoise and white or Pink and heather grey (I believe we are the same age!) :)
Now? Everything!
andrea
January 6th, 2010 4:49 pmPink and gray. Everything in my life was this combo, bedding, moon boots and even my hair bands. Funny thing is, now that I have a daughter I inadvertently put together outfits with this color combo all the time.

January 6th, 2010 4:55 pmI went to middle school in the early 90s and I think my favorite combo was forest green and maroon… or navy and forest green… I sort of gag a little when I see those colors (except navy, still got love for that one)
Now? Um, I really like gray with anything – mustard, purple, black, brown, navy (see, still love)

January 6th, 2010 5:50 pmThen: Pink and Purple. I had this long sweatshirt I wore over black stirrup pants with pink and purple hearts on it. So I would wear LAYERED socks…3 pairs! Pink, purple and white with my keds (and no shoe laces).
Now: turquoise and white always makes me feel pretty and beachy. This time of year I am wearing lots of black with my carmel colored scarf….with gold accessories.

January 6th, 2010 6:30 pmI am very much into the red and turquoise combo lately. In fact today I wore a red sweater with turquoise earrings. But back in the day I was all into hot pick and black. How very “regular” of me.

January 6th, 2010 8:35 pmI remember thinking that my pink and gray sweatshirt were the colors I wanted for my wedding someday.
Now, I’m in love with blue and white, in all shades.

January 6th, 2010 8:46 pmMy HS colors were brown and gold, can you think of a worse combo?
I adore Green and White and yellow and Grey…I have also been feeling orange and Sky blue lately…

January 6th, 2010 9:19 pmSo maybe this is just totally weird but I’ve been thinking about this every. single. day. for weeks because I bought all of these solid color shirts and pants for the baby and I’ve discovered that mismatching them brings on all sorts of flashbacks. Olive green + navy blue = grunge! Navy blue + red = Clothes my parents dressed us in in the 70s! Red + light blue = My mother’s favorite color combo. And so on.
And yes, I know this means I have to get out more. But it’s COLD.

January 7th, 2010 1:58 amI used to be blue with blue (and occasionally a little white). These days it’s chocolate brown with baby blue or hot pink (or on bad days brown with brown much to my husband’s dismay).

January 7th, 2010 6:25 amI don’t remember having a favorite color combo back then, but I do remember being obsessed with matching my socks to my shirt. They had to be the exact. same. color. Not just close. Exact. What was I thinking?
Now, my fav color combination is jeans and whatever. I’m lazy. One of my New Years Resolutions is to step up the style.

January 7th, 2010 6:52 amI went through a pink and grey phase, certainly, as well as a dusty-teal-and-purple phase. Classy. Now I am really starting to like various blush-y colors layered for a soft effect…but I also wear a lot of black and other various solid colors. I think I like sea green/blue and brown best for decorating, though.

January 7th, 2010 7:53 ami love reading these color comments!

January 7th, 2010 10:45 amThen: bright blue and yellow.
Now: diluted blue and brown. Though I will always keep a bit of bright yellow in my wardrobe. Right now, it hangs out a lot with gray.

January 7th, 2010 11:22 amColor combos weren’t in my vocabulary at the time. Everything went with denim – even different shades of denim :( Luckily I’m more aware now, and my latest fave is a bright, citron-y yellow with navy and white. Sailor-esque, yes, but very crisp and uplifting on gloomy Pacific NW days. :)
Sarah
January 7th, 2010 2:49 pmThen? I think…hmmm…it wasn’t so much the colors as it was the pieces. (Champion sweatshirt-jeans-Keds or Sweater-Jeans-Flats).
Now? J. Crew’s citron (kind of a lime green, very bright) looks really great with fuschia or eggplant. (I love my citron sweater with my fuschia suede heels. Sounds hideous, but it gets compliments, including “you look like you work at J. Crew, but cuter.”
It’s a color combo I stumbled into, thanks to snapping up some final sale things without really thinking through how to wear them.

January 7th, 2010 4:13 pmI was into hot pink and neon green in my middle school days. I actually owned a pair of neon green pants which cost me a lot of teasing (though today I notice that every middle schooler on earth has neon pants). Now that I’ve outlived my monotonous childhood tastes, I like some serious variety– though I am also a fan of the red and turquoise.

January 7th, 2010 7:11 pmHa Ha! I’m with you except everything I owned was pink and white. I have this photo of my sister and I at dinner, I was probably in 6th grade and I am wearing a pink tank top with a white off the shoulder (of course!) shirt a la flashdance. Disturbing.
Now I’m stuck on black, charcoal greys and orange

January 8th, 2010 10:08 amHot pink and turquois were totally tubular in my middle school days…I even wore double shirts and socks so I could have them together! lol
Now, I love brown and a soft turquois or black and black…tha always seems to work ;)
And for some reason with clothes, olive green always attracts me…olive green and brown. Sounds dull but it’s not, it’s earthy….earth tones are my fave year round…they can be brighter and crisp in the summer and then moody in the winter…even in Hawaii.
