Let’s Talk About Rebounding

Have you guys heard of rebounding? Apparently, I need to start. Long story short, my lymphatic system needs a boost, and from what I gather, jumping on a mini trampoline is the best exercise in regards to detoxifying your system.

But, YOU GUYS. Will I need to don leg warmers and a scrunchie while I do it? Or bounce to Perry Como’s Greatest Hits? I mean, Bob Hope kept one at the foot of his bed. And what’s the deal with prices? I figured I would buy an inexpensive one on Amazon, but after reading reviews, it seems I need to get a quality one. I mean, I can’t be rocking my G-force jumps on a too small, wobbly, creaky rebounder, right? (If you knew how much time I’ve spent reading about Bellicon and Needak and OMG SAVE ME, SOMEONE. SAVE ME FROM THE MINI TRAMPOLINE REVIEWS ON AMAZON.)

Please bestow your wise rebounding wisdom on me. In the meantime, I’ll be making a funky fresh rebounding playlist on Spotify.

  2. Yep. Done it – as part of a pilates program. It attached to the end of the reformer so technically you’re “jumping” while laying down (and tucking in that belly button!)

    It’s an enormous cardio workout. The only thing you have to watch out for are shin splints, which can still occur.

    Try it – it’s kinda fun!

  4. I don’t know much about it, but I have a client/author who, in her 20s, beat breast cancer and a brain aneurysm, and she’s totally into it. She’s fit and healthy, so there must be something to it!

      Have you looked into doing trampoline classes at one of the trampoline parks that seem to be popping up everywhere? I took my kids once and they had so much fun but so did I! I didn’t realize they offer exercise classes as well.

  5. So now I want one of those, but I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the price tag attached. Still – the custom colors! Also, thanks to the comments I just found a trampoline class (in Costa Mesa!) and kind of want to try that. You’re an enabler!

    Ironically, I purchased a mini trampoline a few months ago as I wanted an exercise routine I could do in the evening after the kids went to bed, without having my bulky treadmill in the house. Until now, I haven’t heard of “rebounding” but it’s great to know that what I’ve been doing for a few months is super healthy for me. The kids love to get on it too. I didn’t purchase a fancy one, just average mini trampoline and it works fine for me. However, I will say the “spring action” is probably better on a more expensive option. Enjoy!

  7. Never heard of rebounding, but I’m all for a mini tramp! I loved jumping on my mom’s when I was a kid (she was the lady who tried, tries, every fitness fad;)). Let us know how it goes for you!

  8. My bff has a rebounder and LOVES it and swears it helps with everything even for only 10-15 minutes a day while watching tv. I haven’t been able to commit to the price tag but every now and then I check Craigslist for a deal on one. I’d love to read a post comparing the different brands. Sarah, maybe the companies will let you borrow them for trial purposes so you can report back to us??? ;-)

  10. Sarah, that’s funny. I had a “lymphatic drainage” massage not long ago (for a node that resembles a hard acorn in my groin – because I was having bizarre endless yet intermittent if that makes sense pelvic pain) and she asked me if I had access to a trampoline! Ha! I’ll be interested to hear what you find out.

    Does rebounding work on a regular trampoline because holy cow, I’m on that thing with the kids every day and I HOPE it’s doing something more than making my birthed-3-babies-body wet my pants every time :P

  12. Ooo I used to have a cheap re bounder from K-Mart I think…. lasted me for ages! Although after a few years I got rid of it because I didn’t use it as much as I should of…

  13. If you have the space, buy a full-sized trampoline and screen for outside. The exercise is awesome but the amount of laughter and family memories we have shared make it priceless. It is the very best thing we have bought as a family!

  14. Do not, repeat, do NOT buy a cheap one. I did (it said it was good for up to 300 lbs; I’m about 145), and I had broken 4 springs in less than 2 months AND split part of the mat. I was doing the Tracy Anderson video online. It puts a lot of pressure on the springs and mat because it is quite high energy. I ended up buying a ReboundAir. I’ve had it for a year and a half, and the first spring broke last week. If I ever had to buy another one, I would probably go with the Bellicon, even though it costs twice as much as the ReboundAir, because I like the idea of the bungee cords and no springs.

    I started doing rebounding out of concern for my breast health. I had noticed that my nipples were starting almost to invert. It really scared me. I was sent to a breast surgeon who could find nothing wrong, but she did state that she wanted to see me every 6 months to keep an eye on things. I did a lot of reading online about the benefits of rebounding, gave up my underwire bras (gasp) and when I went back, there was a noticeable change for the better. 6 months later, I was back to normal, and the surgeon released me because it was no longer necessary for her to keep an eye on me. That was a year ago. I happily rebound a few times a week, mixing it in with some other workouts. Some days, I will rebound for only 5 minutes and do another workout. When I do a full workout, I prefer Tracy Anderson’s DVD. I always feel great when I am done with a workout. I realize that this is only anecdotal evidence, but for me, it’s literally been life-changing.

  15. I have the Needak rebounder and have used it for for over 6 years. It was reasonable priced, made in the USA and after many years of use it still looks new. My Needak also comes with handles so if I can hold on to if I feel unsteady. My 4 year old has been jumping on it multiple times a day too. It is extremely well built!
