odds and ends

1. After my lengthy jaunt with multiple antibiotics, I’m all about healing my gut right now. I’ve bought a couple books on fermenting, and am getting ready to make my first bone broth this weekend. Thanks to Jora, I’m now completely obsessed with this website about the traditional foods lifestyle. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book! (BTW, Jora and I introduced our little girls to each other yesterday, and the cuteness was just too much.)

2. Great advice on how to not say the wrong thing in certain situations.

3. Some diet myths to consider.

4. Did you see this Jimmy Kimmel video on gluten? HILARIOUS.

5. Wow. Interesting article on GMOs. Don’t know what to think about that one…

6. A good read on energy psychology. Do any of you practice EFT?

7. Sadly, I don’t eat bread, but if I did, I would definitely refer to this chart.

8. Did you know the Hay House World Summit starts this weekend? Can’t wait to watch some of my favorite speakers and authors online.

Happy weekend!

  1. EFT advocate! DO IT! That’s really all I can say.

I gained a significant amount of weight in 2012-2013 because of a stressful life situation. The situation ended; the pounds stayed. I googled for a therapist that dealt with weight issues. Best decision ever.

I have had two previous therapists who I would classify as “talky” therapist, where you go and discuss your issues without using techniques. My current therapist practices EFT and EMDR (which I think someone suggested to help Wita and her dog aversion; again, DO IT!). She also suggested I purchase a book on EFT and weight loss. After reading the book and doing weekly EFT sessions with my therapist, I have lost 15 pounds since January 1 (without really changing my diet). It has opened my eyes up to the whole mind/body connection.

Now, I know I could have lost more weight if I did EFT everyday, and I also know I should do it before stressful situations to realign myself. I see the benefits of it immediately and kick myself for not putting EFT into practice when I should. That’s the part I am working on now, committing myself to EFT.

Check out Dawson Church or Brittany Watkins videos online for free first. Also, I do recommend finding a therapist to help you get started first. My therapist always goes “deeper” with tapping on issues than I do alone. Good luck!

  2. Your #2 link is one of the few most helpful and resonating things I read when I was going through hell last year. Because, bafflingly, people do complain to you ABOUT HOW YOU HANDLE YOUR HELL. What in the world?! But they do. I read that article and wanted to pass it out to everyone I knew. But I figured the ones who really needed to read it would be offended by it…so I didn’t. Anyway, I say Amen to it and thanks for linking to that gem!

  4. Amen to that diet myths article! Such good info. in there.

  5. I feel like one of the cool kids has started talking nerdy ;) I love how you are bringing so many of these somewhat fringe health and well-being subjects to your mainstream readers. I think gut health is one of the most important things we should be concerned with these days. I recently took two weeks of antibiotics (kicking and screaming…but it was a preventative measure to avoid lyme) and came across this article from Chris Kresser (you may have already seen it): https://chriskresser.com/what-to-do-if-you-need-to-take-antibiotics I already take daily probiotics, but took his advice and added in Prescript Assist, a soil-based probiotic.

Also–bone broth rocks, but I am so lazy so I rarely make it. I do supplement with Great Lakes grass-fed powdered gelatin/collagen. I get it from amazon for a great price and add it to my smoothies or scrambled eggs.

I’m looking forward to hearing more about your discoveries and what has been working for you!

    Take care :)
