Gluten. You know I cut out gluten before Thanksgiving, right? Frankly, it was way easier than I expected. (There are so many great gluten-free alternatives out there!) I should probably clarify that I cut gluten not because of celiac disease or a GI problem or anything like that – it was a suggestion by my naturopath for my general health, not because I had specific tummy issues. I had no idea that adding gluten back into my diet would cause an issue. So imagine my surprise last night at an event in LA when I decided to be a rebel and eat a homemade churro. HOLY BLOATATION AND GROSSNESS. I made the 50 mile drive back to Newport Beach cursing gluten something fierce. Never again, people. Never again!

I bought Against All Grain a few weeks ago, and it has become my cooking bible. I mean, Paleo and gluten-free deliciousness. This week, I made Slow Cooker Pot Roast, Curried Chicken Salad, Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder, and the famous Real Deal Chocolate Chip Cookies. I can’t recommend it enough, whether you are Paleo, gluten-free or don’t follow a specific diet at all. The flavors of Danielle’s recipes are outstanding, and it’s fair to say I have a girl crush. You can check out Danielle’s website and her personal health transformation (it’s pretty astounding) here.

  1. My sister can’t eat gluten, dairy, or processed sugar so I’ve been using this cookbook for months now. It is great! If you aren’t ready to take the plunge, her website has a bunch of great recipes so you can test them out. However, you might as well buy the book because after trying a few recipes on the website you will be wowed.

  2. Do you mind sharing who your naturopath is? I live in the area and have been kind of looking to take a new route (I share some of the symptoms you’ve been talking about here) and my regular doctor just isn’t doing it for me :)

  3. Are your kids and husband going GF/Paleo along with you? We’ve been Trying to go GF for some time, but my haughtiest is a gluten addict already!!! Some days it’s all she eats. She in the age 3, really really picky stage right now.

  6. My boyfriend got me that cookbook for Christmas – what a dream! I’ve been about 90% gluten/dairy free for about a year, it has completely changed my life. But yes, those days I do splurge and get some gluten-filled goodies…HOLY HURT. Teaches you to go back to non-gluten eating pretty darn quick!

  7. I got my celiac diagnosis about 18 months ago. Interestingly, I haven’t bought a single cookbook — I mostly modify recipes I already have or get recipes online. But your review is intriguing. I think I might give it a try!

(And I’ll answer a PP. I have two kids, ages 7 and 10. Currently I’m the only celiac in the family. Because I cook, dinners are GF about 95% of the time. But their breakfasts and lunches are not.)

  8. I went gluten free awhile ago and could not get over the changes in my body and my mood. I don’t eat 100% GF but I do try. Also, as a type 1 diabetic, eating GF and Paleo has been ah-mazing on my blood sugars and I have been able to decrease the amount of insulin I require, resulting in a good weight loss.

  9. Thanks for sharing this! I just visited her blog and think I’m going to be addicted!

  10. Christina says:

I recently went grain free (as in last week). I don’t “need” to eat grain free, but I noticed that when I do eat healthy grains I am bloated and carrying a lot of water weight. I’m not gonna lie, I mostly cut out grain because I know my body and it has proven to me that this is the best way for me to get down to an ideal weight. BUT I’m also trying to be proactive in my health – my Mom has gastroparisis and my Dad had ulcerative colitis, both of which can be aggravated by grains.

  11. Workout is one more fantastic strategy to get rid of weight as rapidly as you possibly can. Even though you do not have time for you to visit the gym, it is possible to do items like park far away from the retailer so it is possible to do a little walking to acquire there. Usually you are going to notice that you simply can’t genuinely lose weight all in 1 day or simply by functioning out once a month or something. You’ve to become on this and also you must treat it like it is your job to drop weight. In the event you just blow off all of your exercising, you probably will not shed significantly weight.
