5 healthy smoothies to start the day

Do you smoothie? Well, I’m a self-professed Vitamix-loving, smoothie-making fiend myself, and the above 5 smoothies are in constant rotation at our home. (Disclaimer: I have to add blueberries to the two green ones to appease my dear son who detests anything green.)

Check out these 5 recipes, and let me know if I should add any of your favorites to my list. I’ll be over here trying to duplicate my favorite juice into smoothie form…okay, let’s face it, this juicer purchase is on the horizon.

  1. Peanut Butter Banana protein smoothie!:
    -1 whole banana
    -1/2 c. almond milk
    -i tbsp. peanut butter (I use PB2- less fat)
    -1/4 c. fat free greek yogurt
    -2 tbsp. raw oats
    -approx. 6-7 raw almonds
    -ice

    So delish!

  2. I have two favorite smoothies, one is a variation of the Glowing Green smoothie but without celery (so chewy! Yuck) and the other is one I made up that has spinach, a banana, frozen raspberries, blueberries, flax seed oil, and some orange juice. Yum.

  3. Fresh is a vegetarian food and juice/smoothie restaurant in Toronto. They have two cook books out and they each have a section devoted to juicing and smoothies. They are so delicious! I live in Vancouver now so I had to pick up the book to recreate some of my favourite dishes and beverages. I highly recommend it.

  4. I make one with lots of spinach, to try to add extra iron to my diet:

    1/2 banana, 2-3 oz orange juice, handful or two of fresh spinach, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, dollop of yogurt, 1/2 c. ice

    Easy peasy! Even my two-year old likes them.

  5. I’ve tried that juicer you listed and it’s not the best. I recommend the Omega VRT350 or Hurom which is almost identical. Had my Omega for 2 years and it works great!
