wait, wait, wait… i’m a *huge* proponent of placenta eating. i didn’t with my first and did with my second and my physical and emotional state were so significantly better with my second, that i almost mourned for myself for my first experience because i felt like it was so much harder on me than it needed to be. also i’m not so open to recommendations by the CDC… not an org I trust and surprised they are someone you quote (no judgement, just knowing your focus on natural health and wellness). i couldn’t tell – were they saying the placenta itself was the issue or the handling of it after the fact? with home births, my placenta went straight from my body to my kitchen, where my mid-wives cut it for me, and i ingested it fresh/raw (via smoothie) for first five days, then in frozen (also via smoothies) for the weeks following. but if you are bringing home from a hospital and then handing it over to a third-party vendor, that is a LOT of transport time for bacteria to grow.
