Maya Chia Illuminating Serum is Tops

Folks, I’m no stranger to highlighters. (Remember this showdown?)

Well, I have a new one in my arsenal, and dare I say, I might not be reaching for any others in the near future? (Still adore this one too, though!)

I am absolutely loving the Maya Chia Highlight of the Day Illuminating Serum in the shade After Hours.

This Illuminating Serum is a pearlized mineral sheen suspended in an ultra lightweight, easily absorbed infusion of the world’s most nutrient-rich botanicals, and created from the highest quality natural, organic and wildcrafted ingredients from conscious growers from around the world. The serum is never formulated with parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, PEGs, and SLSs.

If you aren’t familiar with Maya Chia, the line is based around Supercritical Chia Seed Oil, which, yes, sounds so very serious. IT IS SUPERCRITICAL, GUYS. Nah, actually, that term comes from a patented process used by Maya Chia to extract the oil called supercritical extraction. This gentle oxygen-free, solvent-free process results in oil with a total absence of chemical residues and impurities, and one that most closely mirrors the chemical profile of the plant. (Which you know is important to me. #greenbeauty)

You can read more about the benefits of Chia Oil here. (I use this product my everyday skincare routine, btw.)

Back to the Illuminati! Uh, I mean Illuminating Serum. (When looking at the above bottle for the first time, my 10-year-old asked if I was involved with the Illuminati. Sure, son. Sure.)

The Illuminating Serum comes in three colors:

The Happy Hour – a cool-toned pink radiance

The Golden Hour – a warm-toned champagne radiance

After Hours – a bronze-golden glow for a believable sunlit sheen

I have been playing around with both After Hours and The Happy Hour.

After Hours on the left, The Happy Hour on the right.

Being the start of summer, I immediately gravitated to After Hours. By the looks in the bottle, I was concerned it might be too dark, but that was definitely not the case! It blends so beautifully on the skin. It gives the perfect beachy sheen and the smell/texture is fabulous. I just put a drop on my palm and apply on my cheekbones, bridge of nose, inner corner of eyes, and cupid’s bow of my lips.

The Happy Hour is quite lovely too, and I see myself reaching for it in the cooler months, as I love pink tones.

Here’s a quick review I posted on Instagram stories about the product.

All in all, it’s such a lovely product!

My favorite summer activity is celebrating summer solstice with my kids. We read solstice books, make a big sun shaped breakfast brioche, make lavender sun tea, and cook food in our homemade solar oven. hello, solar oven s’mores. We picnic outdoors and do a nature craft too.

Living in the Midwest I certainly do not take summer for granted. My favorite summer activity would be swimming with my family as all 4 of us enjoy it. A pool pass every summer is a must! My 7 year old daughter is starting swim team this year so it will be awesome to watch that as well!

Summer in Seattle is quite literally THE BEST. Favorite summer activities have to tie between hiking in our gorgeous mountain ranges and a waterfront patio happy hour. In summer, you will find us doing both on a Saturday (and a second round of waterfront patio drinking on Sunday). It’s all about balance – SUPER CRITICAL, GUYS ;)

Love the blog, your Insta keep me cracking up, and truly taking your green beauty suggestions to heart as I take a more thoughtful approach to beauty and skin care! Keep it up!
