Speak Up With Your Wallet!

nordstrom

So, if you haven’t heard, our new president got a little snippy with one of my favorite retailers for dropping his daughter Ivanka’s brand. (Seriously, how is this man still tweeting?!) I can’t possibly refrain from excessive eye-rolling at this point…they actually might get stuck at the back of my head.

This got me thinking, though. I’ve been doing a fair amount of activist work since I returned from the Women’s March on Washington…writing letters to senators, researching local activist groups to help out, spreading the word amongst my social media channels, etc.

But. BUT. Looking at the past 10 years or so at this blog, what have we been pretty good at accomplishing here at Whoorl? Well, spending. Buying things. (Mindfully, of course. Um, well, most of the time.)

So let’s start talking about companies we should be putting our dollars behind (like Patagonia!) and the ones we should not (ahem, UNDER ARMOUR).

This week? It’s all about Nordstrom. Still one of my favorite retailers, despite Mr. Trump’s rants.

Here are some of my current favorites.

Got an update from Nordstrom in the mail yesterday – officially level 3 card holder. YIKES! But today, not feeling so bad about my support (guess I started voting with my wallet before it was a thing #earlyadopter)

So you refuse to associate with ANYONE who has a different opinion than you do?? Seriously?? Hmm…sounds real tolerant. what a joke!

I refuse to financially support anyone who condones racism, sexism, misogyny, and/or xenophobia.

So you refuse to patron companies that put corporate profit above all else, especially dignity and respect for all? Sounds real tolerant. What a joke!

Ha, if you’re going to post under another name, at least take the time to change your verbage so it’s not so obvious.

It’s not a matter of a difference of opinion or being sore losers. There wouldn’t be worldwide marches for Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio or Mitt Romeny. It’s a matter of the hate Trump stands for.

Good for you Sarah!!! Props to your stand. You’ve been a bright light on the internet.

Thanks for sharing this, Sarah! We are being very careful about how we spend our money these days, too, and making sure to support companies who, as you say, do not condone racism, sexism, misogyny and/or xenophobia. GrabYourWallet.org has been a great resource. Learning to be an activist feels amazing.

America is diverse and so are our wallets. Insulting us is not a smart business move.

Thank you for sharing, Sarah. Just placed my Nordstrom order yesterday! I’m not sure what’s worse his meddling, unethical tweets or what he’s potentially distracting us from. Either way, no tolerance for racism, sexism, misogyny and/or xenophobia – it has no place in our diverse society.

Ok, slightly off topic, but Nordstrom order related, have you tried any of the makeup remover cloths that use no soap? Would love your feedback!

Nordstrom’s official reason for dropping her line was because it wasn’t selling. And as far as I know Ivanka wasn’t promoting racism, sexism, blah, blah, etc. I heard several times during the past election that Hillary shouldn’t be judged for her husband’s alleged history with other women so boycott DJT but really, why drag her name into it.
