Odds and Ends

owen

1. Do you end your texts with periods? Well, I guess you’re totally off-putting then. (I totally do!)

2. Do your friends really like you? Eye-opening read.

3. Sexism while reporting the Olympics. Shocker. This made me laugh so hard. Congrats, girl!

4. The body keeps score. Oh yes, the body keeps score.

5. Olympic divers or porn stars? You decide. (You do know there is a diver named Steele Johnson. Heh.)

6. Um, STOP IT WITH THE CUTE OWL AND DOG.

7. Ooh, finding your purpose by Hunter S. Thompson. I like it.

8. Simone Biles is perfection. Love these.

9. Oh man, I think it’s time for another Moms Escape. This is a great offer.

10. Plogging? I get it, but plogging? Come on now.

11. Oh lordy, here we go with the fall boots. *averting eyes*

Sarah, I thank you enough for #7 on this post. Hunter S. Thompson’s letter/essay should be a must read for every student in English class. I’m personally printing it out ( after condensing a bit) and framing it for my family to be reminded everyday of the beautiful message Thompson so eloquently delivers. LOVE!!! also love your blog, it so down to earth and inspiring!

    1. I can’t end my texts with periods. Unless of course they’re comprised of regular sentences that are supposed to end in periods. But if I’m just saying “Yes” or “Thanks” it’s going to look more like “Yep!” and/or “Thanks!” (!!!!!)

    2. I really dug that, and its reading for me was quite timely, so thank you for that. #PsychicAwesomeness

    3. Worrrrd. We need more Olympic announcing like this: https://twitter.com/_youhadonejob1/status/763367659308212224

On a similar note, this article both enraged me yesterday and also made me so thankful for strong women who use their voices: http://www.runnersworld.com/other-voices/the-problem-is-not-women-running-alone

    4. “Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives.” YES. Oh, how I adore BrainPickings.

    5. I’d altogether missed this phenomenon! (No TV = no fake diving nudity.) Very amusing.

    6. I love owls. And I love that their names are Ingo and Poldi.

    7. “But a (wo)man who procrastinates in his (or her) CHOOSING will inevitably have his (or her) choice made for him (or her) by circumstance.” A(wo)men.

    8. Simone Biles + Simone Manuel = A ridiculous amount of inspiring. #Badassery

    9. This reminded me that I need to book some massages and acupuncture sessions, posthaste.

    10. Never. Never ever ever ever.

    11. Duck boots forever! (Alas, nothing saves me from the formidable ice.)

(Well, that! was fun. As always, thanks for sharing. Your Odds & Ends posts are always some of my favorites. And sometimes I verily miss commenting, and reading/interacting with comments, and blogging circa 2005 / 2006 / 2007 – until I let my blog die in 2012…ish. Hence this comment. :) Love & mountain goats, and I hope you have a fantastic weekend!)

One of the Tweets in the “Congrats girl!” article is about how announcers keep referring to the fact that gold medalist, Dana Vollmer, gave birth 16 months ago “but hasn’t lost her edge” and how that is sexist because they wouldn’t say that about a man who became a father 16 months ago. HELLO, THAT’S BECAUSE WHEN A MAN BECOMES A FATHER HIS BODY DOESN’T GROW A BABY FOR NINE MONTHS, BIRTH IT, AND THEN DEAL WITH ALL THE POST-PARTUM STUFF FOR HOWEVER MANY MONTHS AFTERWARDS! I do not think that mentioning that a female athlete has come back after having a baby is sexist…I think it makes perfect sense to talk about it considering that it alters your body quite a bit. Now some of the other comments, yes, they were sexist…

Wow….your posts are amazing. The perfect amount of cute pictures, thought provoking material, social commentary, and girly shit like boots. I just “binge” read your site (if that is a thing?) and just had to tell you how great your content is and appreciate you for being authentic!
Keep up your great work and I will keep reading it!
