My Top 8 Green Beauty Must-Haves

green-beauty-must-haves

I know jumping into the green beauty world can seem a bit overwhelming at times (do you remember how I started?), but I’m here to take it down a notch for ya. Trust me when I say I’ve tried a ginormous amount of green beauty products, and this list you are about to digest contains the bee’s knees in terms of natural beauty. Now, I was all gung-ho to keep it succinct and go for my Top 5, but I just couldn’t narrow it down. All 8 of these products are must-haves for me!

Bite Beauty Lipstick – Where do I even start? I have over 20 shades from this brand, and I just can’t quit. I CAN’T QUIT, people. Top shades for me are Fraise, Mimosa, Chai, Meringue, Aubergine, and Pastille.

Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Lovely – Perfect pink, dewy flush. Enough said.

Ilia Lip Gloss in Peek-a-Boo – Obsessed with this gloss. Although my skin is fairly light, my lips must be really pigmented because almost all light pink and/or nude lipsticks and glosses wash me out. (And when I say “wash me out,” I mean it looks like I applied concealer to my lips.) Well, not this lip gloss – it’s the perfect nude shade and the consistency of the gloss is on point. Good staying power, but not sticky.

Drunk Elephant Sheer Physical Defense – I have an entire post planned describing my foray into the Drunk Elephant skincare line (hint: it’s amazing), but today I will focus on the sunscreen for the face. It isn’t greasy, doesn’t leave a white cast on my face, and doesn’t break me out at all. I love it.

Perfekt Beauty Lash Perfection Gel – Will you please just listen to me and buy this stuff? It beats out all mascaras, green or conventional.

Hynt Beauty Concealer in Light – This concealer is HEAVY DUTY. It doesn’t mess around. I use it sparingly under my eyes and it works wonders.

Jane Iredale Lip Pencils – About half of the week, I forgo lipsticks and glosses for lip pencils with a little balm on top. Jane Iredale lip pencils are super creamy and stay on for hours. My favorites are Spice, Rose, Nutmeg, and Plum.

Beautycounter Tint Skin – I sound like a broken record, but I still love this product. (Just search for it in my sidebar if you want to read review after review.) ALTHOUGH, ahem, I would like to announce that I may have found another product I love as much, if not more. Now, I’m only in my first month, so I don’t want to jump the gun, but the Honest Everything Tinted Moisturizer is really winning me over right now. It has all the pros of the Tint Skin, but it ALSO has SPF 20. Oh yes, people. All in one. The color match is spot on (I wear Cream), and I’m really enjoying it.

(Also, if you are going to try out Honest Beauty, go for the bundle. It is such a great deal! I got the Tinted Moisturizer, Everything Cream Foundation, and the Daily Beauty Fluid with SPF for 50 bucks. Saved so much moolah!)

So, there you have it. My can’t-live-without products. Now, if you are wanting even more, be sure to check out the Ultimate Green Cosmetics Guide with tons more recommendations.

As always, leave me questions, and I’d love to hear what your favorite green beauty products are!

I really wanted to like the Drunk Elephant. I bought it after seeing it profiled in GOOP, but I find the formula very drying on my face, and I have combination skin. I tend to only use it on ears, neck, and hands now.

I just fell in love with the W3LL People mascara and concealer! I like the Hynt concealer a lot for blemishes, but it is a little too dry for under my eyes and seems to accentuate little fine lines as the day goes on. The W3LL People one is creamier. I may end up buying both. :)

I’ve been using 100% Pure’s tinted moisturizer (which I heard about from you!) all winter but as it is running out I’m not sure if I’ll buy another or try something else. I like it and it doesn’t break me out, but it still does seem maybe just a touch too yellow. Not sure. Do you like the Honest version better? I wish Tint Skin came with SPF but that’s a deal-breaker for me! (too much sun damage in my past…sigh).

I am SO thankful for all your green beauty posts. You pretty much introduced me to it and I’m so glad! My wallet and husband might not be. Ha. ;)

I definitely need to try the W3ll People concealer. Will add it to my list!

I do like the Honest TM better than the 100% Pure because the color match is much better. The Honest might be a tad thicker than 100% Pure, but it still blends very well. Let me know if you like it, and thanks for the nice words!

Do you use the Honest tinted in oil free or regular?

      Regular.

Super helpful to have these reviews! Do you find that the Perfekt mascara washes off easily? I am prone to styes, and mascara that is difficult to wash off seems to make them worse (and so does most make-up removers.) Thanks!

Yes, it washes off easily with my face cleanser. (I use the One Love Organics Foaming Cleanser.)

I bought the Hynt beauty concealer and mine came in a little pot. I’d much prefer it to come in a tube like in your picture. Is the link wrong? I’m just confused.

They switched to the pot recently. My first purchase of it was a tube, but when I needed a darker color it was in the pot.

Yes, I had the chance to speak with the owner of Hynt last week and they did switch to the pot after receiving some complaints about the tube. (I loved the tube personally!)

Dag! I fell in love with Drunk Elephant, dammit! It is *the only* skin treatment thing that doesn’t make my sensitive skin freak out. In fact, the nighttime thing and the vitamin C stuff calm whatever’s going on. Why do they have to be SO EXPENSIVE? I have a Drunk Elephant budget line, for real

Ooh, I was wondering if you were going to try the Honest products. I’m curious about them, especially at the bundle price point. How did you like the foundation and the beauty fluid? I’m a little confused among their various products, especially: daily beauty fluid sheer tint vs. everything tinted moisturizer. Isn’t that basically the same thing???

I love the Perfekt mascara! I tried the Lily Lolo mascara because people were raving about it, but I have to do 2 coats to get the look I want, which I don’t have to do with Perfekt.

I was going to try the Honest Beauty tinted moisturizer, but it has sodium benzoate in it, which I avoid :( Looked so promising otherwise!!

The W3ll People concealer is next on my list to try. I have Hynt, but only like to use it on blemishes for the same reason someone mentioned above – too dry for under the eyes. I use RMS for under my eyes, but sometimes it’s not enough…

I too loved the Perfekt mascara recommended by you, tryed well people-flakes, which is a bummer, because everyone else seems to love it. I wondered if you have tryed the perfekt tinted moisturizer and other products.?

Haven’t tried the other products by Perfekt – oh, actually I tried their brow gel and liked it, but since I have bangs that cover my brows, I don’t really need it. ;)

I really appreciate this post as well as the video you posted on your morning and night routine! I’m transitioning to all natural and organic products and love all of the new brands you’ve introduced me to! I currently use several Caudalie products as they seem to be more natural. Have you ever used anything from the line and if so, what are your thoughts? I love their detox night oil! I’ve only just discovered your blog and find it so fresh and fun!

Thank you, Yvonne! Haven’t tried anything by Caudalie yet.

Hi, do you have any recommendations for kids natural makeup? My 3 year old keeps stealing mine. thanks.

I really appreciate these round-ups you provide! I have been following your recommendations for natural mascaras and agree: the Perfekt mascara is amazing! But I get raccoon eyes just after an hour or so after application. Any tips on how to avoid this?

Also, I have very dry, fair skin but the spf moisturizers I’ve tried (Dew Skin and Suntegrity) just exacerbate the dryness and make the flakiness more pronounced. Ideally I’d like a long-term solution for combating dryness, but until then… how would you rate the moisture level of the Drunk Elephant?

    Thanks!.

Hmm, I don’t have that problem at all. Do you have watery eyes due to allergies or are you rubbing? I would ask if you have oily skin, but it seems you don’t.

As for moisturizers for your dry skin, I would DEFINITELY prep your skin with an oil before applying any of the sunscreens. (Also, are you exfoliating?) Drunk Elephant has a 100% Marula Oil that they sell. It’s very mild…you could apply it beforehand. I do find the Drunk Elephant sunscreen to be moisturizing, but I don’t have dry skin.

No rubbing. I use an oil or balm at night and sometimes in the morning. I have wondered if my lower lashes are rubbing off on the oily skin under my eyes. The dryness is basically limited to around my lips and on my temples.

And, yes, perhaps I need to up my exfoliation game? I exfoliate maybe once a week and I have been noncommittal, switching between a gentle brush + face wash and an Burt’s Bees scrub I’ve had around for too long. I have the Pacific exfoliating moisture mask, though!. I’ll try to be more consistent with that, but I thought it might be too drying.

        Thanks!

Hi Sarah, I was wondering if you have any pics on the blog or Instagram of the Peek-a-Boo gloss? I am so used to seeing you with brighter lips and would love to see how you wear this one!

Also, do you have any recs for a safe nail polish remover? Many thanks!

Hi Amber – hang tight, I have a post coming up next week with me wearing the Peek-a-Boo gloss. :) Also, Treat Collection makes a good green polish remover.

Sorry to be slightly off topic, but I can’t comment on this post: https://whoorl.com/2016/02/my-favorite-natural-and-organic-haircare :)

I was wondering if, out of those organic hair care products you talk about, you have a suggested ritual like you did with the Redken All-Soft and the “magic elixir” of Aveda Be Curly and Pantene smoothing balm. I’ve been hooked on that combo because it finally allowed me to just let my hair air dry without it looking like straw! (And thank you so much for that!) What would you recommend out of the organic products to produce the same results on my naturally wavy/slightly curly/very thick hair?

    Thank you!
