Chambray All The Way

chambray dress roundup

Let me tell you a little story. A few days ago, I was sweating sitting at my niece’s softball game in 90-something degree heat and 1,235% humidity. Like a good rule follower, I was donning items from my Spring capsule wardrobe, but as you can see, the options for my lower half are extremely limited when you factor in OPPRESSIVE HEAT. (Seriously, can you imagine sitting in the blazing sun in skinny jeans? It is the worst, I tell you. THE WORST.)

Anyway, while I was marinating in my own pool of sweat and tears, I began daydreaming about lightweight chambray dresses. I love chambray – the way it feels on the skin, the shade of blue that works with anything, and most importantly, the way it keeps you cool as a cucumber.

I will be buying one very soon. Oh yes, I will. Maybe two, capsule be damned.

Here are some of my favorites, and I threw a few denim skirts in there for good measure. I’m crazy, I tell ya.

As one who grew up in Oklahoma, I know Oklahoma summers are no joke! I moved away 20+ years ago and have lived all over the planet, but nothing can prepare you for the insanity of the Okie summers…or the amount of dollars you’ll drop at the local Sonic trying to keep cool. I should recommend the Diet Coke with lime and vanilla- sounds toxic (it probably is!) but is oh, so delicious.
I feel your pain! I’ll be visiting my crazies next month smack dab in the middle of the summer. Clearly there is something deficient in my thought process!
All of this rambling to say- you should really consider a white cotton shift dress. It is cool, breathable, chic (Looks like you care), and will be my standard uniform while I visit….they’ve never let me down.

Oh man. Yeah, I’m in neighboring Arkansas, and it’s HOT this week. I wonder if folks in warmer climes, where summer starts early and hangs on for longer than 3 months, might need to tweak the length of “seasons” for capsule purposes. “Spring” may need to be 2 months and “Summer” may need to be 4.

I love the idea, too, and I too have been drowning in humidity. I just moved to a place where it seems to be consistently humid…from spring to fall. Taking any tips for getting through it!

i don’t think anyone is going to fault you for abandoning your capsule (at least for new bottoms)!

Maybe instead of a spring/summer/fall/winter capsule – which WOULD work in California – you need a temperature capsule. -20 to 45 degrees, 45-65 degrees, 65-80/85 degrees, 85+ degrees…and by true summer in the midwest, find a pool or an A/C and don’t leave it.
It is supposed to feel over 100 degrees here in Kansas and I will want to pass out when I experience that type of sun heat later today.

Have I had too much wine? I don’t see anything but the one dress image.

I love all of the dresses but I feel like I’ve seen all of those skirts on the racks of my local Goodwill! I just can’t seem to do anything but shutter and think of all the denim skirts I gave away after high school… And the Sea one reminds me of mom jeans but in a skirt… But then again I guess mom jeans are in again?!?
