It’s All Going By Too Fast

This post is sponsored by OneDay. Thanks for supporting the site!

How many photos do you think you’ve taken of your kids? I mean, technology has really upped the ante when it comes to documenting (and sharing) our lives. And it’s pretty crazy how a photo can bring back a flood of memories. For instance, this one:

oneday1

This photo was shot on Mother’s Day several years ago, approximately 3 hours before I came down with the Worst Stomach Bug Ever. Like, sleeping-on-the-bathroom-floor-next-the-toilet-kind-of-stomach-bug. Ahhhh, the memories.

The thing is, though…it doesn’t seem that long ago, yet look at my babies. Wita was just that, a BABY. And now she’s singing Taylor Swift at the top of her lungs and honing her sassy remarks. Wito, who wasn’t even a thought when I started this blog 9 years ago, is now reading Harry Potter.

Time just needs to slow down. Except that, it’s not going to. It’s gaining speed as each week, month, and year passes.

So we take the photos. We try to freeze each moment in time, so that we never forget those rosy, post-nap cheeks and deliriously happy baths.

I love taking photos of my kids, and will cherish them forever, but I really love videos of my little ones. Just being able to see the little quirks in their personalities and hear their sweet voices…it just can’t be beat.

A few years ago, I bought a book of questions to ask Wito at bedtime. His answers have been pretty adorable, so when I was recently introduced to the OneDay app, which provides questions for your family to be captured on video, I was intrigued.

The super cool thing about the OneDay app (besides being free!) is in the app’s simplicity. There is no editing, and no thinking required. You literally do not need to possess any editing or video skills to make a video – you just point your smart phone camera at your kids, ask the question on the screen, record their answer, and the app does the rest. It is ridiculous how easy it is! I have found myself filming a lot lately during short periods of downtime.

Check it out for yourself.

Oh, I’m sorry. Did you hear what she said at the end of the “best pal” question? HEART MELTING.

Of course, I feel the need to show you one of Wito too.

I like Target too, buddy.

Okay, okay, just ONE more and I’ll promise I’ll stop.

I could seriously make these little gems all day, and I know we’ll watch them as a family now, as well as when the kids are much older. You should definitely check out the app – it’s such a fun and easy way to document periods of your family’s lives.

Gotta be honest I’m a bit saddened by the tone of the posts lately. It seems to be sponsored post after sponsored post….really seems to be less of a personal blog and more of a profit making machine now. I’m all for the odd sponsored post but a quick look through what i’ve read recently on here shows that almost all the posts recently are this way. Would be nice to actually see some real updates on your move and reasons behind it particularly when we followed you through moving to your last house and decor, etc. Seems that now all this is just money making which makes me sad when i enjoy reading about you, your family, views etc. If i wanted an advertisement I’d watch tv.

Hi Hannah, I do appreciate your comment. Let me be honest as well. The fact of the matter is that this website is my sole career and helps to support our family, and sometimes (particularly the 4th quarter of the year), sponsored posts become more abundant. November and December are always busy months for this blog.

I will say that I still ONLY agree to sponsored posts for products I truly enjoy and think my readers will too. I turn down far more opportunities than I take on, but I understand if you would rather spend time reading more personal blogs. I’ve been blogging and writing sponsored posts for almost a decade now, and I’d hate to lose you as a reader, but some months are going to have more posts of this nature. It is what it is. The great thing is that there are 120,000,000 blogs out there, and I’m sure there are some that would fit the bill for you – have you checked out my blogroll in the sidebar? It rotates each time you refresh the page.

Hope this helps. Also, I wrote about my reasons for the move here if you are interested: https://whoorl.com/archives/20486

These videos totally crack me up! My son would likely say almost the same things as Wito. The only difference is that for him it’s all about the XBox … that’s all he wants for Christmas.

I’ve only been reading your blog for a few years, but I feel like it’s very balanced in terms of sponsored content and personal blogging. Thanks for sharing your life, your beauty and lifestyle tips, your battle with Lyme (something I’m very familiar with), and your wonderful family.

Oh, thank you, Karen. Trying to keep the balance can be challenging at times, and I really appreciate your kind words. Oh, Lyme….I just want to punch it in the FACE. ;) (Struggling right now…but tomorrow is a new day!)

(And what is UP with the boys and the gaming? Gahhhhhh. Wito gets to play video games on the weekends, and it’s ALL he talks about during the week.)

Hi there! I am curious what book you bought of questions to ask at bedtime. I have a 3 year old and part of our bedtime routine is asking him questions about his day (What was the best part of your day, What made you smile today, Did anything make you sad today, and so on…). Sometimes he gets stuck saying the same answers every day. Side note: many days he says the best part of the day was school even though his drop-off is filled with tears and leg-holdong. Anyway, maybe different questions might shake things up a bit.

I’ve only been reading your blog a few months and so far I’ve been pretty happy with the content. I really like the Mindful Monday posts would you do.

    Best,
    Carla

Wita’s answers made me cry! miss you all so much. I love that this is one more way for me to watch your whole clan grow up. Kenie especially loved watching her friends on “the tv” =)

I am new to your blog (learned of it through FB only about a month ago) and will be checking it out more. I have to assume you’ve made the transition to incorporating sponsored content without compromising your messages and vibe, because even without previous familiarity with your blog, the sense of fun and positivity came through loud and clear to me immediately. The products don’t have to be a bad thing. Readers can skip what doesn’t appeal to them and regulate their experience. We’re all consumers to some degree anyway, so why not get info from a refreshing source rather than the bombardment of unasked-for advertising? Congratulations on finding a satisfying way to support your family. More power to you! Your posts are a cute addition to my FB feed. All random smiles are welcome in my day. Fun-loving, healthy people are priceless. All the best to you!

One more thing – I meant healthy as in healthy outlook. I don’t want to hit a nerve with people who have physical/mental/cognitive illnesses and imply they’re lesser. I live with significant health problems myself and don’t want to be insensitive. ….just in case that needed to be said!

I take a lot of photos of my little guy but this app looks easy enough that I might try to branch out into video. The structure and the fact that the snippets can be short seems just right for my busy toddler, and much better than just pointing a camera at him and saying “go!” I haven’t gotten a lot of video gold with that approach. Thanks for the recommendation!

I am typically solid with my decision to not have children. And then I saw the videos of your son. Ow.
