It only took us 7 years

Well, seven years after having my first child, we decided to have some family photos taken. (Can you believe that? I have no idea why we waited so long.)

We enlisted Cary Holton, who is a mega talented lifestyle photographer. She had quite a challenge on her hands, though. Known for capturing authentic moments in clients’ homes, our family was half a country away from ours while visiting Oklahoma this summer so we had to do some brainstorming as to where to shoot. We chose Kaisers for some ice cream and then downtown at sunset. I am so so happy with the photos. Here are some of my favorites.

These are so beautiful and natural. I don’t know how anyone could want studio photos after seeing these.

I love the relaxed and natural style of these photos. So many photographers have moved toward this hyper lit, romantic style where the individuals are shot completely without real life context. These are a breath of fresh air!

I’ve been reading you for YEARS and this is the first time I’ve ever commented (I know, I know – lurker!), but I just had to today because these incredible photos of your family made me tear up a little. Completely caught me off guard! What a beautiful, loving and spirited family you have!

    Much love,

Just love everything about these. And on a more important note, what is your nail polish in the last pic? The pictures really are beautiful.

These are so beautiful. Your family is gorgeous. And oh my god, is your daughter ever a ham. She was born to be in front of the camera! What a riot. I’m glad you shared these. They all made me smile!

We just booked a family portrait session for next month, and now I want to scrap it and find a way to hire Cary. These are gorgeous. Also? Your hair is stunning. Mine is currently looking a bit like Princess Di’s circa 1992. I hope you’re feeling as happy as you look.

Your family is beautiful and the pictures are lovely! Was anyone else a bit shocked when they went to the photographer’s homepage? I’m just not a fan of kids on toilets pictures.

1 – My favorite part has to be the long-suffering-big-brother look in the sixth shot.

2 – That last shot? Gorgeous.

3 – You know Wita’s eyes are RIDICULOUS, right? My goodness.

YES! #6 is my favorite of the lot because that is just SO their relationship. Wita has a perfect, practically untouched sundae yet she STILL goes for Wito’s. Poor guy. ;)

      (Thanks for the compliments.)

The one of D and Wita on the diner barstools could easily be the inspiration for a Norman Rockwell painting. These are GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS.
