Neiman Marcus Modernist Event

nm1

Last week I attended the Neiman Marcus Spring Modernist Event at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. I love going to fashion shows like this and just inhaling inspiration. (Please keep in mind the key word here is “inspiration,” because Lord knows these beautiful garments are way out of my current budget.)

Before the show even started, I was transfixed by the guests’ bags and shoes across the runway from me.

(I was wearing my $50 Gap leopard flats. *shifts eyes*)

The show was amazing. Most of the trends that were presented are below.

The warm weather leather trend has me salivating, you all. The leathers were so soft and buttery, and in every color under the sun. (Please feast your eyes on this Pierre Balmain yellow leather jacket. LUST.) However, my favorite trend that Michaele Hall mentioned was mixing high and low. Ladies, I can definitely get on board with that one.

I loved all of the shades of blue.

But these were my very favorites.

Just give me those windowpane trousers with a simple black boatneck top and heels, and I’m a happy girl.

After the show ended and I was slowly being pulled back into my Akris and Lanvin and Oscar de la Renta-less reality, the lovely lady seated next to me asked which pieces I was planning to buy that afternoon. I barely could contain my laughter, and told her that the trend of mixing high and low was my favorite….I just manage to stick to the lower side the majority of the time.

All in all, I’m feeling trés inspired for Spring. I might have picked up a few blue items already.

I think mixing high/low is just smart, trends be damned. If you have $1000 to spend on clothes, and you blow it one a pair of shoes, then I win at shopping because I could have gotten all kinds of amazing things and looked just as good. And I know people swear they’ll wear them forever, but most of us will want a new pair of black pumps between now and 2033, even if the $900 version is still kicking after 3 re-soles.

Those are beautiful clothes, indeed, but there is lots of expensive stuff that doesn’t look much better than the $70 versions unless you go around making people feel your leather and examine the seams, which would be strange. :)

P.S. I love your Gap flats so much I bought a pair

Ooh, all the shades of blue! I like the idea of warm-weather leather, but I’ve yet to see anything truly practical for a warm Socal day; the search continues :)

    Thanks for the inspiring post!

It’s so cool that you got to go to this event! I love the styles and definitely am most focused on the bags and shoes too (both on and off the runway). I can’t wait until spring actually arrives so I can start buying some new stylish pieces.
