February 4, 2013 at 9:52 amJust a point about Robert not wanting the baby to be a Catholic. There is a motion which just passed the House of Commons this week and has now gone to the House of Lords for a vote. The main focus of this is to allow the baby that Kate and William are expecting to be allowed to rule even if they have a girl first. Until now the first born male would be next in line.
Part of this bill also states that the future King or Queen is now allowed to marry a Catholic. Previously they would have to give up their place in line to the throne. They are still not allowed to become a Catholic themselves as they also become Head of the Church of England when they ascend to the throne.
Its long and complicated in English history but basically comes down to Henry VIII wanting to divorce Catherine of Aragon when she could not give him a son and heir.

February 4, 2013 at 10:45 amRobert is losing his mind and being very grumpy because, like Mary said, things aren’t going his way. He doesn’t handle change well. Or maybe at all. I don’t want to give up on him because I think he has a good heart. He represents establishment, and sometimes establishment/tradition is demonized during change (when it behaves badly (ROBERT)), but I’m hoping with some support ol’ Robert will come around. If Cora and the girls can bear to be kind to him while nudging him along, I think it can happen. What can I say? I don’t want their family to fall apart, and I’d love to see the old curmudgeon (and Carson too) realize that a little compassionate change can be good. He’s having a tantrum right now. Lots of stress.

February 4, 2013 at 11:27 amI loved this episode, the tone of it reminded me of Season 1.
When Robert is speaking with Mary about how Sybil’s death is unreal to him that he sees or hears something and wants to share it with her only to be reminded that she’s gone was such a truthful tenet of death of loved ones and the survivors who loved them.
Totally loved that the Dowager decided to not waste a “perfectly good pudding” versus leaving because her meal had been prepared by a girl that used to be a prostitute!
It’s also interesting watching women of all types push against the restrictions that were the norm.
I’m sure you have already, but if you haven’t seen these, you must watch!!

Used to be “Anna, why would you marry that old man?”…now I’m more like “Hmmm…he’s steadily getting better looking, well done Anna!”.

In the meantime, I’ll be over here investing heavily in Kleenex and whatever companies produces makeup that will hide the bruises from chins hitting the floor.
