Look! I heeded your advice!

Here’s another segment I shot for Yahoo’s The Thread about fashion and beauty etiquette from the 20s through the 50s.

The REAL reason I want to show you this is that I totally took your advice during my No Shopping Challenge weak moment in January. (Thank you!) The majority of you all told me to suck it up and find something in my closet for this segment, and I did. Everything I’m wearing in this video (down to the accessories) is at least 2 years old.

Okay, the REAL REAL reason I am showing you this is so I can divert your attention away from what I’m about to tell you. Um, if you didn’t happen to see on Twitter or Instagram, I failed the challenge a few weeks ago. And it wasn’t just one thing, it was SEVERAL things at J. Crew. D should not have left me in there alone! I have no willpower!

Shameful.

Anyway, video. Forgive me.

SO PROUD! And you look adorable!

Also, rule number one of not buying stuff : DON’T GO INTO STORES. Hehe. ;)

Love the video. I’m going to embrace my 20s before all the rules of my 30s start applying!

Thank you, Ashley! And yes, I was SO stupid for walking into that J Crew.

Such a cute video! And yes, I can resist anything except temptation. If I’d gone into the store, I would have bought something too. Avoid the stores! :)

Cute video and good advice but… and I don’t mean to be snarky, but I don’t think the giant gold shoes worn by the hostess are good for any age. I was distracted by them throughout the video.

Lovely job! Your speaking is as well done as your writing.

I agree with what you say about women in their fifties- I’ve just stepped into that decade myself and it’s so true. Dark lipstick ages a face. Something I’ve noticed, too- even if we’re fit and trim, 50 is not the time for jeans with sequins or tank tops- “mutton dressed as lamb” remarked one friend.

And you are right about the hair- get the best stylist one can afford, keep up with current trends, keep away from harsh coloring. My worst fear is the dreaded “mom cut”.

Love your blog- I’m always interested in the latest trends and which ones are applicable to my own life.

I think that these rules are generally ok, but I think the hair advice about color is not necessarily applicable to everyone. I think I have seen that other blogger, Secret Agent Josephine, who has let her hair naturally grey and from her pictures she looks great. What’s wrong with letting the hair pigmentation go and then playing up other features? At some point, the hair doesn’t match the face.
