How To Create Loose Waves (The No-Clamp Curling Iron Method)

You know what I think you should do this weekend? Create soft, loose, and bouncy curls in your hair and make all the other ladies completely envious. Awwww, yeahhhh.

For those of you who go waayyyy back with me, my very first hair tutorial involved creating loose curls with a curling iron, but not using the clamp. (I did that post 5 years ago. Isn’t that crazy?!)

Well, five years later, I finally decided to update that tutorial with a video for Style United. (It was actually early last year, hence the shorter hair length.) Take a gander if you’re interested.

(Remember how my 2012 hair resolution is to embrace my natural wavy texture? Yep, stay tuned for another video about the favorite products I use when I’m not using a curling iron or hair dryer. Which I’m reeeaaaalllly trying not to use. That much. It’s HARD, y’all.)

I watched this tutorial on Style United about a month ago, and honestly, it’s changed my life, er, well the life of my hair. I do it about 4 times a week, and get sooo many compliments. It literally takes me less than 5 minutes and always looks great. Thank you!!!

Alrighty, two questions. Did you use product before the curl job? If so what? Secondly, was your hair blown-out before the curl job? If so, D A N G. Great video lovely friend.

Yes, I am guessing I quickly dried my hair with a blow dryer before since it’s not too wavy in the video, and I always ALWAYS use Alterna CAviar Styling Tonic when I am heat-styling my hair. It smells good, protects from heat and gives a little bit of hold. Trifecta!

i watched the other video… then got sucked in to reading about the hot pediatrician… ;)… and was wondering the same thing… if you put product on before- similar to the glossing cream.

thanks for enlightening/entertaining me this early mornin’ =).

I don’t know why this is so difficult for me. Between holding the curling iron down and curling away from the face, I feel like I am trying to figure out a geometry puzzle. I also become clumsy like I lack control of my hands. I am a circus freak with the curling iron . . . but this is inspiring me to give it another try. Maybe I will film it with Chariots of Fire playing in the background if I get it down.

I did it and love it! I have a bob, about two inches past my chin in front and it looks adorable. I used a 1″ barrel on the front and a 3/4″ barrel on the back and it looked so good!! Effortless and pulled together without looking fussy! Thanks, again, for the great tip!

Mandy @Harper’s Happenings sent me. Can’t wait to try this! Your hair looks gorgeous, and we have similar textures so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for similar results ;)

I’m popping over from Harper’s Happenings where Mandy mentioned this post of yours. Thank goodness she did because this video may have changed my life. Thank you for sharing your curling technique! I’ll be trying it out soon.
