hair thursday makeover 66

Meet Alicia.

Alicia is about this close to being the next inductee into The Fishing Club, but I do have a few small suggestions for her royal beautifulness. (Although, really. She could shave her head and still look gorgeous.)

Alicia’s hair:

Naturally medium-dark brown that lightens considerably in the sun
Dry, wavy and thick
Preferred long hair in the past, but open to a shorter cut after her wedding next year
Usual daily styling includes using curling cream and Fekkai glossing cream
Not very comfortable using styling tools
Lives in a hot and dry environment

When Alicia mentioned that her hair lightened easily in the sun, I instantly knew the addition of warm, golden highlights would be perfect for this summer. Nothing too drastic, lord knows I hate a striped look, but something that would complement her complexion and beautiful eyes.

Something to the tune of this.

I also think the addition of bangs (similar to the above photo) would draw attention to Alicia’s blue eyes. That coupled with long layers and highlights would be the perfect summer look!

(Tip: For texturized beachy waves, try Frederic Fekkai Limited Edition Marine Summer Hair + Aquanutrients Beach Waves or Redken Layer Lift 07.)

I’ve got a question for you. Do you have a favorite drugstore hair product for creating a beachy look? Do tell!

Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray FTW! There’s also this Aveda spray that I used to have (it was in a blue bottle) and I remember the smell was amazing, but I cannot remember the name! Argh. Anyone remember that one?

I can see why you almost inducted Alicia to the fishing club – is it fair to be so pretty?

My favorite product for beachy hair is KMS Sea Salt Spray. That stuff is awesome!

Nexxus makes a sea salt spray as part of their Phyto Organics line that’s less expensive than Bumble & Bumble’s version. But it’s still not as cheap as a drugstore brand.

I’m curious to know if anyone has tried the DIY version and how it compares to B&B’s.

My hair is wavy, but lately the texture has been changing, so the front and crown have gotten wicked curly, while the rest has remained a relaxed wave. I visited my stylist, and while she used a little texturizing pomade to help control the tresses, what she did was even out the wave by this really cool technique with a round brush. She basically pulled a section through till almost the end, twisted up a section, and then used that narrow filter on the hairdryer to heat it but not blow the hair around. I’ve done it at home, and it makes beautiful waves. I have tried OTC products for beachy waves, but my thick hair tends to eat products and just look messy in the end.

I’m also a fan of Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray (I spray a bit into my hand and distribute it that way, since I have pretty fine hair) layered with Grooming Creme to smooth it out a bit.

Very interested in the DIY approach. Always wondered about that.
