The Best Bridal Hair

Meet future bride, Caroline.

This October, Caroline will marry her childhood sweetheart in a candlelight ceremony at a Victorian home built in 1822.

She has shared the details of her romantic wedding with me, namely her dress and the bridesmaids dresses.

Caroline tends to lean towards more classic and timeless styles, so she is going for a refined elegance that looks fresh. Wait! Classic? Fresh? Refined? These words sound mighty familiar. You’ve come to the right place, Caroline.

Caroline’s hair:

Thick and wavy, but straightens easily
Lots of layering throughout, including around the face
Has embraced her natural waves

My idea of a perfect wedding style for Caroline involves a romantic half updo. First off, a lot of her layering is quite short, which is great for her day-to-day style, but might be difficult to wear in a complete updo without using tons of hair spray and product to keep it back. Plus, the half updo really fits into the whole ambiance she is creating for her big day. Soft, romantic, refined elegance…remember?

A half updo looks really beautiful with strapless dresses as well. It showcases the neck and shoulders, but the overall look remains fresh and youthful. I would suggest having her stylist work with her natural wave by using a 1.5-inch curling iron to add curls throughout.

Although Caroline’s hair won’t be quite this long by October, the overall look would fit perfectly with the entire day.

I love the side part, the long layers swept across the forehead and the soft curls. Caroline can opt for a small adornment in the back or just a couple of well-hidden bobby pins to complete the look. Her cathedral-length veil will be just perfect with this style.

Be sure and keep us posted on your final decision, Caroline. Best wishes to you!

UPDATE!! Here is Caroline’s wedding day look.

From Caroline’s email:

Hi Sarah,
Here are a few photos from my wedding. I followed your advice and people loved my hair. I am sorry that it has taken me MONTHS to get these to you. The best excuse I can come up with is I’m now nine months pregnant (12 days from my due date) and things have been a wee bit busy around here. My next suggestion for a post? The best styles for post-partum. Or am I kidding myself and need to succumb to the daily pony tail? Seriously though, I’d love to hear how you handled your hair in the early days with your son and any coping strategies you can offer.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and keep up the great work on Hair Thursday,
Caroline

Thanks, Caroline! I honestly don’t think that you could have looked any more lovely. Congratulations on your pregnancy and I’ll be addressing the whole “postpartum mom hair” issue here on Hair Thursday very soon.

I think that would look gorgeous on Caroline! And it doesn’t hurt that she favors the adorable Tiffany-Amber Thiessen!
