hair thursday makeover 57

Meet Meghan.

Meghan’s hair:

Naturally light brown with lots of gray
Very dry and chemically processed
Very fine hair, tends to frizz if not blow-dried
Likes long hair, but isn’t sure if it works for her
Wonders about red or strawberry blond hair
Uses moisturizing shampoo and conditioner (Aveda Damage Control or Neutrogena Triple Moisture)
Can’t wash it every day because of the dryness
Uses a shaping creme or Fekkai Glossing Creme with a paddle brush to smooth
Air-dries for a wavy look on occasion

I think Meghan is doing everything right with this look. The length is perfect for her face shape, the long sideswept bangs accent her eyes beautifully and the style promotes great movement.

Meghan also sent me a photo of a past longer hairstyle.

I can say with 100% certainty that the shorter hair is a much more chic look for Meghan. Don’t you agree? I truly would not change a thing in regards to her current cut. I love it!

Meghan did mention daydreaming about red hair and I think she could pull off a strawberry blond color with her fair complexion. Anything more intense in regards to red would probably look too stark against her skin. Her current stylist highlights and lowlights her hair…I wonder if her stylist could achieve a strawberry blond look by lowlighting with a redder tone? Maybe something similar to this?

I really love this strawberry blond color shown on model Maggie Rizer. Come to think of it, Meghan looks a lot like Maggie! This could be a great color for Meghan.

What do you all think? Should Meghan go strawberry blond?

As for products for drier, chemically-processed hair, Pureology NanoWorks line is awesome. I would recommend the NanoWorks Luxury Hair Masque once a week to keep her Meghan’s hair moisturized, revitalized and protected. (I know, I know. It’s expensive…but it lasts forever and it WORKS.)

i think the shorter hair ages her, to be honest. i like the cut, but i think she looks 10 years older in the top pic than she does in the lower, longer-hair photo. i think slightly longer than chin-length would be a great option for her. the strawberry blonde suggestion was spot on, though. that would look tremendous.

Really? Maybe it’s because the longer, non-styled hair gives her kind of a I’m-in-college-and-I-am-just-going-to-grow-my-hair-really-long look. Lord knows, I had one of those phases. The longer hair also makes her face look rounder, which gives a more youthful appearance….but it simply does not make her look chic, hip or stylish.

I think the strawberry blonde would be stunning on her. I love the cut and don’t think it ages her, and think the addition of a little color might make her look more youthful over all (which is not to say she looks old in the least!)

She’s so pretty, and yes – she looks a LOT like Maggie Rizer. That strawberry blonde color would be stunning on her, and I love her cut just the way it is.

It’s not that her current cut ages her – it is just a more mature look than the previous picture. I think it is a better cut for her stage of life.
The strawberry blonde will look amazing with her eyes and freckles. She’s beautiful already, but this is one transformation I am excited to see!

Another observation – upon further inspection (and perhaps it’s the lighting), her hair color almost looks gray (greige). I think the addition of strawberry blonde will add a youthful tone to her hair.

I have to agree with (commenter)Sarah. I am coming out of the woodwork for just that reason…I don’t want her to think she is the only one…I thought the exact same thing before I even read her comment. I think the top cut does age Meghan. I think it should be a couple of inches longer, where it would sweep her (very nice and pointed) chin. The exact same cut (keep the same length in the back, for the most part) but longer in the front.

Definitely a yes to the strawberry blonde!! Oh and love your name, Meghan!!

Sarah and Crystal make a great point!

I do think this cut would look good on Meghan from the current length, to chin length, to hitting right above her shoulder. As it grows longer, the style will transition nicely.

I would love to know the age difference between the two photos too!

Thank GOD someone who can actually pull off strawberry/blonde is considering it! GO FOR IT, Meghan!

I also believe the cut she has now (while it is super chic, and I love the bang shape) ages her at least 5-10 years. I think her perfect length would be just skimming the shoulders. That way, she can avoid it looking too heavy and bulky and keep still keep that great shape and swing.

I cannot wait to see the update on this one!

This is Meghan! I am appreciating the comments so keep ’em coming. The difference between the 2 pics is 3 years. I don’t think the lighting is great in my bathroom for the current pic–the lighting in there makes my hair look a bit gray-er than it is (particularly the pic on the left).

I agree about strawberry blonde. I was thinking that before scrolling down also. I also agree about adding a little length to her current cut (but keeping the general shape).

I am also plagued with dry hair, and I think that both Aveda and Neutrogena conditioners, well, suck, for people with dry hair. I’ve done a lot better with cheaper, but heavier, conditioners. For example, the Pantene color series–I can’t remember the name, but they have choices for different hair colors–does well (try the red), as does Aussie Moist. If you really WANT to spend money, try Nexxus Humectress. If I use any of the Aveda conditioners for more than a day or two, my hair starts to turn into straw.

I tend to agree with Lyndsay, and perhaps it’s just the lighting, but I think it’s more the color than the cut that looks “older” in the top photo (NOT “old”, just older than the long hair photo). Her face is obviously still very youthful, so I think the color change to strawberry blonde would really make a big difference–not just young, but stunning!

Excellent advice, Sarah! I hope Lyndsay goes for it!

I have to agree here – not a huge fan of the current cut, it’s not that I don’t like it… I just don’t LOVE it… I was thinking that just a few inches longer might look nice so that it hit more around the jaw bone than the cheek bone… do however think that strawberry blonde would be cute!

    Hey everyone:
I have known Meghan for years and trust me, it’s the lighting folks! The short cut is super chic and adorable on her. It does not age her at all. In fact, I would argue that most of us need to lose the super long hair once we head into our thirties (of course Meghan is only 29…..but you know what I mean). The color does not look ashy in person, but I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, to see her as a strawberry blonde and am pushing this suggestion to the max just for something fun. My one concern w/ the suggestions on here for her to go longer (though I think it might be a fun variation at some point in the future) is the fact that she complains of super dry hair. The shorter cut not only works with her face, but also w/ the texture of her hair, which I don’t think has been given enough consideration here. Anyway, love the website and love Meghan’s hair! Just my two cents…..
