hair thursday makeover 43

We need more testosterone around here, don’t you think?

Meet The Moons.

This Oklahoma City-based band is in need of some Hair Thursday help.

They’ve got some darkish blondes:

They’ve got some brunettes:

And they’ve got a woodsman who fled into the mountains when he was wrongly accused of murder:

Since we’re dealing with many (cute! musician!) participants, let’s get to it. Most of these haircuts are on the shorter side because 1) I strongly believe that the majority of musicians don’t need to look like trannies/80’s rejects/homeless, and 2) Oklahoma is hotter than shit in the summer months.

Shall we start with Brian? Brian’s transformation is probably the most important, mainly because he is a dear friend who could sabotage me with vicious threats of blackmail if I steer him in the wrong direction. The world does NOT need to know what Brian has witnessed over the years in regards to yours truly. Also, I very much like his wife and darling little boy.

Let’s look at some options for Brian.

Option #1 would give Brian some great volume at the crown…and I’m kidding. Those are horrible.

I’ve seen Brian with all different hair lengths. And although I do think leaving a little length would be best, Brian, GET THAT HAIR OUT OF YOUR FACE.

How about something like this?

This style leaves a little length on the sides and back, but keeps the front short enough that it can’t hang down into the eyes while he is drumming away. Perfecto.

How about Aaron?

Am I the only one who senses a modified Blue Steel pose here? Aaron has the easiest transformation – all he needs is a styling wax to give texture and mess it up a bit. Bumble and Bumble Sumotech or Paul Mitchell Grooming Pomade would work very well.

Mark:

Mark’s style reminds me a little bit of Michael John’s hair. (WHAT? I enjoy a little American Idol from time to time.) However, I TOTALLY envision him with a shorter, 50’s Mad Men-type style. The style in the above photo would look so fantastic with his features. (So would the suit, but I’m probably pushing it, yes?)

Michael:

To make Michael’s densely thick hair look like the above style, I would recommend having his stylist texturize throughout his hair, as well as use a product like Fudge Styling Clay or Texture Paste to get the right amount of texture and hold.

And last but CERTAINLY not least, Chad.

And that’s where you come in. To beard or not to beard? To grow or not to grow?

First off, I must say that Chad’s hair has major potential. He’s got a lot of it, and the gray coming in on the sides is my favorite part.

(Quick sidebar completely unrelated to Chad: Men. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, quit coloring your gray hair. It looks SO UNBELIEVABLY FAKE. Gray is sexy. Poll coming soon on that one.)

I love Keanu’s style in Option #1, and Chad’s hair could look exactly like it with a little more texturized length on the top and some shaping on the sides and back. The question is, should he trim the beard to get the overall look of Option #1 or shave it off completely like Option #2?

Decisions, DECISIONS. The future of Chad’s face is in your hands.

If you are in the Oklahoma City area, The Moons will be playing with The Uglysuit on August 1st at the 51st Street Speakeasy (1114 NW 51st Street). Make sure they look presentable, will you?

OMG, for a second there I thought you were for serious with your first suggestions for Brian. I thought maybe you’d had a heat stroke or something. Whew!

I think Chad would look smokin’ with just a goatee/mustache combo. Then he could rock the product in his head hair and have a tailored look with his facial hair. Keeps the attitude but not all that heavy, hot, makes-your-face-look-fat beard hair. Besides, men with nice eyes always look good with goatees.

Dude, thanks for picking such cuties for this week’s HT.

I, for one, can’t wait to see the “after” shots.

I, too, was beginning to wonder “who is it that’s posting these frightening hair photos, and what have you done with Whoorl???!?!??!?” Seriously – near heart attack. I’m too young to die!

Holy snap, Michael Johns is EXACTLY who I thought of when I saw Mark’s photo, so CUTE, and NO I would NOT touch a HAIR on his precious HEAD. So, look, I just all-capped all over myself, wtf?

I would like to make a plea to the voters. Option #1 is clearly the way to go. I love my bro. However, this past winter he was persuaded to forgo the facial hair… it was not a pretty site. If I had small children I wouldn’t have wanted them near him.

Definitely go with the beard! Gotta love a man with facial hair. Maybe go with a goatee in the summer and the full beard in the winter?

Without seeing a pic of Chad sans beard I had to vote option 1, some men need beards.

Also, are there usually guys that hot on American Idol?? Because I’ll start watching!

Yeah, when I saw that Barry Manilow cut I was thinking “Is she crazy?”. But this is a great post and I can’t wait to see the followup! Those guys had better follow through and, guys, I know it’s easy to just wash and go, but please, do yourselves and us women a favor and use some product. Just a bit! The messy look looks great! It’s so easy to just tousle some pomade in, mess it up, and go! Way better than the fuzzy, fluffy, grown out buzz cut look (that my Hub-E is currently sporting…).

I’m in OKC *right now* for work, and I concur. The heat and humidity here has made me its BITCH. Those boys do not need any excess hair! That being said, those that know Chad (like his lovely sister above) should have final say in the beard/no beard debate. My husband once shaved off his goatee for a Halloween costume, of all things, and I spent the next several weeks wondering why I was smooching on a 6’7″ twelve-year-old. It was very disturbing. Some men needs them the facial hair.

I say, “Dude. Shaaaaaaaaave it. Dude. Just shave it. All of it.”

That is generally my response to all dudes with facial hair because I generally dislike it immensely on every dude that’s got it. However, most dudes with facial hair like having facial hair (for who knows what reason) and (so the fable goes) lots of people like dudes with facial hair. And I will admit that some dudes need their facial hair and in fact look quite strange without it. As Mr. Adams here is probably attached to the idea of a face full of hair, I would suggest that he at least trim it up a bit. My general dislike of facial hair aside, it looks very unruly and not purposely styled, as though he just let it grow and never did any cleaning up of it. As it is now, to me it looks a bit grimy and like the person wearing it could possibly benefit from a shower or seven and a good bar of soap. That’s not to say that Mr. Adams here is of the smelly sort — or at least, any more smelly than any other musician. I think it would help his overall look if he trimmed the sides so they looks less…bushy. He needs layers to lighten up the heavy load and give it a shape…I mean…actually, I don’t think you can layer beards, exactly…but if you could…that’s what he needs. It’s too heavy on the sides and looks off balance from the area on his chin, which isn’t as heavy.

But if Mr. Adams is not attached to this facial hair business….Dude. Shaaaaaaaaaave it. Dude. Just shave it. All of it.

Those are some rockin choices of hairdos for the Moons. I would really like to see Brian with that short hair. He needs a good rockstar cut. Now to Chad…. trust me…. he needs to have facial hair at all times. I don’t think the world could handle a sans-beard Chad LOL. And he really knows how to work it too. Keep that beard yo, just trim it up and make it look pimp. You can do it.

    Ooo fun!
I also like your suggestions, but with two caveats (or perhaps one caveat and one exception?). In any case, I always vote against hair products on guys. Hair is fun for girls to play with. Hair PRODUCT is NOT fun for girls to play with. But the hair CUTS you suggest I am totally a fan of. :)

Here’s where we get to the exception — I really like Mark’s hair. Just as it is. In fact, I would recommend you save the photo to post as future suggestions for other men. And the slimy cut you picked for him just makes me cringe.
(This is, I believe, the FIRST time you have given a suggestion I didn’t like?)

And I’d vote for a shorter beard than the one Chad has now. While I’m not generally a supporter of facial hair (with the exception of side burns), beards just… “work” on some people. And he is one of them. :)
