hair thursday makeover 23

Several months ago, I received an email from Emily containing these photos. Emily explained that her hair was thick, wavy and she was itching to get rid of it. She was considering short hair and wanted to know if she could pull it off.

I put her on the list, and as her week approached, I sent an email asking if she needed to update her photo. She sent me this:

She emailed that she had since dyed her hair black and cut it herself. Her new bob wasn’t evenly cut and was prone to bedhead and unwanted flip.

First off, let me say that Emily has a beautiful face that could pull off any style. Her petite frame and large eyes remind me of Audrey Tatou. Looking at the initial photos, I agree that a short hairstyle would look great on her. It just seems that her lovely features are hidden by longer hair. Her updated photo is an improvement length-wise, but the color is too drastic.

First off, I would correct the color back to her natural medium/dark brown. The black is just too stark for her complexion. Secondly, PUT DOWN THE SCISSORS EMILY because the following options require a professional.

Both of these photos are of, you guessed it, Audrey Tatou. Good lord, I can’t express how much I love Option #1. It is such a darling cut, and would spotlight all of Emily’s beautiful features. Plus, there is virtually no styling that has to be done with this cut. Three to four minutes styling with her fingers and voilá! So. Cute.

That being said, if Emily doesn’t want to make the jump to a short hairstyle, Option #2 isn’t much shorter than her current length, but the addition of bangs would really accent Emily’s eyes and layers would intensify her natural wave.

What do you think?

I actually quite like Emily’s chop job. If I were in charge, she’d just get it evened out by a professional, with some texturizing layers to make it sit nicer (I too have the thick hair of death). But either Audrey Tatou style would look gorgeous.

My concern with option one is that Audrey’s hair seems much wavier than Emily’s. As a person who has had hair that short, it would take a bit of work to make it that curly. With hair a bit longer (and good product), I’ve found it’s easier to coax it into being wavy. And oh I wish I had more of that wave! Great choices, either way.

I love Audrey Tatou. And how amazing that she does look so much like her. I chose option 2.

I definitely like shorter hair on Emily, and I think either cut would highlight her eyes since they have the shorter pieces/bangs. She has the perfect hair texture for shorter hair! And, she definitely resembles the adorable Audrey Tatou!!!

Even if her hair is straight, I think she could rock the short pixie cut (a cut I am so very envious of – if I could I would have it in a heartbeat). I love the option one of Audrey, but she could go even shorter a la foodmomiac…

Voting for #2… and along with the bangs, it looks like the kind of cut that a little layering might release the wave so she looks even more like the photo. Lucky girl!

I’m with Annika actually… love th current bob, and I would just get it evened out by a professional.

    Wow! Audrey Tautou. I’m flattered.
I agree, short hair has been a welcomed change that I plan to keep, and both cuts are so tempting.
Perhaps I’ll try the longer option first, and then make the leap to super short option #2. Thanks so much for the advice and input. I never could have found two styles as perfect on my own.

number 2 for now and then number 1 for summer. you’ll want something short for those sticky DC days. Nice Iron & Wine reference, Emily :)

I love that I did the same thing before my own wedding. I get so antsy! And then ran to a salon for them to fix it. Sort of. Now my hair is longer than ever and I’m FREAKING OUT. I told Chris he has to keep telling me how much he loves it long, every day, or I’m going to just randomly bob it. (Not really. But I’ve thought about it! Have I mentioned the freaking out part?)
