Moving along to Participant #2.
Meet Allison.
Allison’s Hair:
Highlighted
Very Fine
Straight
Unwanted hair flippage (especially her bangs)
Stubborn cowlick that drives her crazy
Willing to work with products and tools
Allison sent me a photo of her cowlick and what happens to her bangs by the end of the day, so my first suggestion is to lose the bangs. Bye bye. I know she loves the idea of bangs, but no amount of product will help a cowlick that stubborn.
Let’s work with what you’ve got, Allison! Shiny, straight hair! If I had super-straight hair, a bob (inverted or one-length) would be my hairstyle of choice. Looking at Allison’s 2nd photo, I would recommend growing out the bangs, so that her sides are one length and even, but keep the graduated layers in the back.
Option #1 is a great-looking inverted bob, with the front portion of hair being the longest (thus keeping the cowlick under control). It shouldn’t be too difficult to style, since Allison already knows how to work with graduated layers in the back and the front should only need a round brush, hair dryer and a tiny dab of shine serum.
Option #2 is a one-length bob, which Allison could totally pull off with her finely-textured, straight hair. Remember, the longer the top layer of hair, the less amount of flipping will occur during styling or throughout the day. This option definitely is more traditional, so I would recommend punching up her color a couple of notches.

September 6, 2007 at 11:36 amAllison – one minor suggestion. You didn’t ask but here goes…getting your eyebrows arched will open up your whole face. And if you’re going to have a gorgeous head of hair, why not, eh? Depending on where you live it’ll cost about $18 – $24 and soooo worth it. And it hurts but only for a second. Like being snapped with a rubber bang, kinda! Give it a try!

1) YAY Whoorl for Hair Thursdays! I’m so excited! I feel a bit like a celebrity! Even more, I feel like I’m hobnobbing with a celebrity! I heart Whoorl :-)
2) Not to sway anyone’s opinion or anything, but asking me to grow out my hair is close to a death sentence. I can’t do it. It is bad. news. bears.
3) Although they are a bit bushy at this point in my life, I do regularly get my eyebrows waxed. Is there a difference between simply having them waxed and having them “arched”? Because I’m all about it – Any suggestion is a good suggestion. (well, maybe not *any* suggestion). How does one get their eyebrows arched? Do I just ask my stylist to wax more of an arch into them? Because I will – I swear I will.

September 6, 2007 at 1:17 pmAllison, it may just be different terminology. Do you have Benefit where you are? They call it “arching” and it seems like they take off more brow from underneath. Then they fill in the curve above with the magic eyebrow filler-inner (“browzings” I think it’s called). Voila – the perfect arch.
Would anyone like to chime in on the difference between eyebrow arching and eyebrow waxing?
