The Final Verdict

Hello. Welcome to my running blog.

WAIT, come back! I swear, this is the last of the running gear entries, but I needed to divulge my final and SHOCKING opinion.

I, Sarah of Whoorl, am officially in love with all of my new road-tested (not just trotting-the-sidewalk-with-wine-tested!) running gear.

1. Adidas Response Baggy Short – I love these shorts. LOVE. I ran in both these and the Nike Tempo shorts and for me, the Adidas worked the best. The 4-inch inseam (opposed to the Nike 3-inch) made all of the difference. They are paper-thin, don’t ride up and keep my thighs completely cool the entire time. I am now the proud owner of several pairs.

2. Lucy Energy Sport Bra – The best part about this sport bra? It doesn’t cut off the circulation to my armpits – meaning, no armpit fat bubbling over the edges of the bra. Hallelujah. Oh, and they are on sale RIGHT NOW online for $10.00. TEN DOLLARS, PEOPLE. Get ’em while you can.

3. NikeSportsTee Tank – These have the Nike Dri-FIT technology, so they keep you cool and happy. Plus, I love the colors.

And finally, the skirts. I wanted to love the skirts, y’all. However, I am very sorry to say that the skirts were shipped right back their maker. Personally, I am not a fan for a couple of reasons. For me, the material was too thick. It felt very similar to the sweaty capri pants that started this whole running gear search in the first place. There just isn’t any comparison to the light-weight papery feel of the shorts. Also, the skirt’s waistband sat much higher on my waist than the shorts, and when I attempted to pull it down, it would just ride back up. The compression shorts were visible below the skirt, too. All in all, no. Just no- at least, not for ME. I’m sure the skirts look fabulous on YOU. *kisses*

Now, I’m off to run on a treadmill while running shoe experts analyze my gait and try to help me understand why my right ankle feels like it will break off at any second. Please Jebus, don’t let me trip.

Oh you’re making me feel like such a cow what with the running and all. Would like to report that I a) purchased the Fekkai glossing cream and am awaiting a shipment of the spray b) have done a makeup post in your honor.

I LOVE Lucy (haha) — but really, I adore their selection and fit. They have great yoga duds. I used to work on their PR account way back in the day, when they were ONLY an online store. You know, when it was cool to have dotcom as part of a company name.

Anyway, I wish we had a Lucy store here… so for now, I buy from them online.

You are too funny. Good for you for getting all analytical with the running gear. I would do myself a giant favor if I would simply put one foot in front of the other in a slow approximation of running, instead of sitting on my couch every night eating Triscuits. You are clearly way ahead of me. As usual! :)

You’ve inspired me to start that running plan. Thanks, what a great idea. I think I can actually handle it.

Dammit, whoorl! You had to post that link to the “couch-to-5k” running plan…now I have no excuse not to run. I’m new to running (and honestly had been hating it)…I made a commitment to run a half marathon to get my post-pregnancy ass out the door. I’m following the couch potato plan now, and I’m scared I’m starting to like this running thing. Thanks for posting it and giving me the motivation I so desperately needed. Now I’m off to new running gear land.

Delurking to commend you on your goal! I just did all this that you’re doing recently. I decided I needed a goal this year so I’m running a marathon in October. I started with a 5K in March, then a 10K in May, and I’ll have a half marathon in July and/or September. It’s a great goal and you are so right that the clothes and shoes make all the difference. Please keep us updated on your successes! You’ll do awesome!

Half marathon!? WHOAH! That is awesome!

yippee skippy I’m glad ya like the adidas shorts! I love them too. Dry thighs are happy thighs.

I don’t like them, I LOVE THEM. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Thank you (and Jonniker, too) for the rec.

Addidas shorts, check. Lucy bra, need one. Nike (ok I have an Avia one) dri-fit, check. Now I just need to have this baby so I can run along with you.

Can I dare suggest a product for running and long hair? Goodie has no slip elastics that Hubby got in his Marathon kit, I love them. Finally I can put an elastic in my hair and it doesn’t slip or pull while I am doing excercise. It looks like a normal hair elastic with tiny bubbles of rubber that help it not slip. Amazing. Just thought I would add a little something, since I can’t run right now.

    I’ll pick some up. Thanks!

Now that you have the basics down, it is time for much more important things! It is time to craft your running playlist. Do it for me. Because I need one and I’ll bet I… uh, I mean, YOU could get some good stuff here.

Also? Do not try to out-skinny me at Blogher. I will kick your ass!

There will be no out-skinnying (huh?) at Blogher, I promise. While all of you dedicated lovelies have been watching your WW points, I’ve been eating a steady rotation of spaghetti with meat sauce, Chipotle burritos and supreme pizzas.

You have really motivated me to give this whole running thing another shot. Even better is that I get to go shopping for new clothes before I can start! You might have to do another running post about the shoes you end up with–that has always been my biggest problem with running, ill fitting shoes. Oh, and I like Emily’s suggestion of a playlist, such an important part of a run.

    Keep the running posts coming!

I’m planning to do a C25K graduation post if I make it through. Halfway finished today!!

I have to put in a plug for Lucy’s “speedy racer short”

I’m also doing the Couch to 5k and found that you can make your own timed playlists with iTunes so the song changes when you move to the next interval. Just specify it in the options on the playlist.

Sarah, thank you! (Also, great name. The “h” is key.) I’m going to mess around with iTunes this weekend and see if I can come up with something fun.

the running playlist idea is fantastic!
can we create imixes and share them?
I make mine with itunes (often 80s inspired) but I am not clever enough to know how to share or post them?

iMixes! The playlists could be endless!

YAY for the running playlist! At first, I didn’t think it would work since I’m listening to those podcasts for the next 4 weeks, but if I can time the songs and such, I might make one now. I will definitely share one once I’m finished with the program. :)

Yay for Adidas shorts! For me, I don’t understand wanting to run in a skirt, even with shorts underneath. I need to be fancy free while running as running and I really aren’t friends (don’t tell running I said that, it already kicks my ass).

I need some new running shoes fo shizz. My knee recently started to swell and I’m not sure why, I’m guessing its my shoes. Let us know about your shoe of choice!

  • jonniker

    July 12, 2007 at 11:16 am

OVERPRONATION. I’m dying to know what happened with the shoes, but were the words OVERPRONATION OH MY GOD uttered at any time? And did they lecture you about the new shoes every six months and the need for support in the inner foot? DID THEY DID THEY DID THEY?

I meant to comment the other day on your link to the play lists. I downloaded the first one and I agree a bit techno-y but it really helped to have someone tell me when to run. I am planning a 5K Run for the Cure(breast cancer) in September so this came at the perfect time.

Also I wanted to recommend for those who are a little more endowed than the Lucy bra can handle I suggest shock absorber. I got one and it is so comfortable and my chest stays put. Check out this site for a very freaky boob animation. http://www.shockabsorber.co.uk/bounceometer/shock.html

You live in SoCal and run on a treadmill? Hopefully it’s outside! I know when I lived in Cali I couldn’t stand working out inside – although I’m not a full time mom and blogger, and back then had no responsibilities. I bet you were multi-tasking, huh? Running, watching TV and mothering all at once.

Actually, I run outside. I was referring to the treadmill at the running shoe store – the sales people watch you run on a treadmill to determine your running gait.

    July 12, 2007 at 6:35 pm

Good girl. Actually I think they watch you to see how out of shape you are. (generally speaking – I took a stress test a few months ago and literally fell of the back of the treadmill!)

I’m a HUGE fan of those Nike tanks too. LOVE them.

I’ve had a hard time with sports bras forever but recently found that GapBody makes a great one. Surprisingly supportive.

Good on you for the running. I got myself all super-outfitted for yoga/gym with lululemon gear – now I have an overstuffed drawer; great motivation to get me there at least a couple times a week.

I agree with Amy, the skirtsports is the way to go. And Nike and Adidas nor Champion compare to what skirtsports. I have one and I hate to wear the pair of Nike shorts but can’t return and no way am I not wearing something that cost me that much money.

I’m new to your blog and found you through Kelly who wrote about your hair and I have to say, it makes me want to buy a curling iron for my long, straight, no layers hair. Think it will work?

    Have fun at Blogher!
